It looks real, you may be able to tell the market by the voltage or the cord, the cord showing could be Japanese and it shows 100v minimum. What language is on the screen? I've only seen very few VCD Players, how does it output the video?
Not the only one Sony made https://www.ebay.com/itm/Working-Vintage-Sony-D-VJ85-VCD-Walkman-Discman-CD-Player-/293210080058 I have read that VCD was popular in places like China due to the ease of making discs using a CD writer. I also recall that the first Panasonic portable DVD players were ridiculously expensive, like £400 for a similar unit.
yes they were £400 longman i took mine back and bought one 7" panasonic portable dvd player it was £700 lol i also bought a second hand "9 panasonic at £400 those were a grand new
I remember seeing them in a locked glass cabinet in Comet. By 2003 they had dropped in price enough to make it into the Argos Catalogue In comparison in the same catalogue you could buy a VHS Video recorder for £50 and a 14" portable TV for £75. Back to VCD there is a whole article on Wikipedia about them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_CD They reckon they were popular in developing countries where VCRs never caught on and DVD was too expensive. The far eastern writing (Chinese ?) on the D-VJ625 confirms that it was aimed at a Far Eastern market. My only personal encounter with VCD was getting a few discs and the Full Motion Video cartridge with a Philips CDi which I bought when they were being heavily discounted. The video quality wasn't as bad as you might expect it to be.
here is the 9" panasonic i had longman https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panasoni...995301&hash=item1a84da4692:g:hSQAAOSwojddhznV
I still use DVDs and bought one from Amazon this week. However, I have several laptops that make perfectly good DVD players. Normal under the TV DVD players seem to be a Charity Shop / Car boot sale staple these days at under £10. I haven't seen a Bluray player in a Charity Shop yet though
The video quality on the CD-I is pretty good for what it is, I have quite a large selection of CD-I films and they are very watchable, I may be bold enough to say better than Laserdisc, which through my eyes is comparable with VHS for picture quality (well the 4 Laserdiscs I have are anyway!)
thanks for the messages, the ac adaptor is 100v, i need to get hold of an av cable and check out the VCD menu system
