This little Juliette TPR-1121X looks a lot like a similar Hitachi which some call the first boombox radio from 60's, since it had two speakers although sans cassette. It's neat looking and would be a good shelf queen for a boombox collector. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Ju...a=0&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219
Another desktop note pad showed up with a new price reduction! A must have for the JVC M-70 Collector. https://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-Metal-...a=1&pg=2334524&_trksid=p2334524.c100667.m2042
Sony M-1000 Stereo Microcassette, priced at a premium but I haven't seen one with the box and booklets before. The demo tape is super rare, it's funny when you do find a metal demo tape, it's always 15 minutes and not full length. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-M-100...812725?hash=item5478ac54f5:g:OuEAAOSwZH1dv3ZY
Sencor S-5000, these are really big, much bigger than the photo lets on, about the size of a large VCR. It's very similar to the Technics 646 but bigger. I think this was meant to compete with field recorders but this one has a radio making it a boombox! That might be splitting hairs since it doesn't have a handle, just mounts for a shoulder strap and the mounts don't extend far enough to protect the overly protruding cassette deck keys. Good luck finding one in this condition, these are super rare and may be the only boombox with three analog meters going at the same time! A true gem for any collection and this price seems reasonable. https://reverb.com/item/29083406-sencor-mobile-hi-fi-s-5000
For the Toshiba Walky Collector that has just about every model, this astounding piece, the RP-14 Walky Scope, with built in radio. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Toshi...224764?hash=item2acdabf3bc:g:xkwAAOSwE~pc-l5-
The Ion Boombox is 1/2 price! I'm not sure what the promotion is but the Best Buy Website still has it at $139.00. $69.00 and free shipping on Ebay, I might have to check one out. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ION-Audio-...844068?hash=item4b6e494a24:g:Z9EAAOSwhN1dgpnN
Sorry, they must have put the price in wrong, the listing ended as I posted this. I checked my link and it was over, my original web page was open and it said over 10 available...who knows, maybe a black friday item?
On a similar note, there was an article in the Guardian at the weekend pointing to this. It’s actually not bad looking £200 GPO Brooklyn 1980s-Style Boombox - CD, Cassette, FM & DAB+ Radio, USB, Bluetooth Receiver - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K47QN8R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_PNtYDbWT08Y6F
The Brooklyn has been around a while and has a better reputation than some for a Repro boombox, although the Amazon reviews aren't that good mainly due to quality issues, It is now on the Argos website as well. Looking back to real antiques. Is it a small Panasonic trouser press or sandwich toaster? No its a Record player to go along with all the Panapet radios etc Have a look at the rest of the listing and there is a cool advert as the last picture https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/National...292709?hash=item4b6e7de965:g:1QgAAOSw8oJdyO9K
Local Pick Up Only in Ohio, I really wanted this but it would have probably broke in shipping.... Toshiba Red Neon Sign with box https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vtg-Toshib...274634?hash=item3f8fba0d4a:g:VG8AAOSwZd1VWOzI
The Brandt RK-822 S, this has 1 or two other "Also Known As" AKA's, this is a very impressive looking box, it looks big but check out that handle it only goes 3/4 way, but I've never seen one up close, these are pretty rare, Reli might know about it. The Brandt Version looks like it's French or Belgium? Pretty cool, not too many boxes out there with these labels. https://www.ebay.com/i/293343064781?ul_noapp=true
I rarely see AIWA TPR 950's in this price range, to me this is much better that the silly money they're usually at. One of the best looking boxes of all time and late 70's elbow-breaking heavy. https://www.ebay.com/itm/AIWA-TPR-9...298387?hash=item4da071dc93:g:0asAAOSwLwtd1Cad
I don't mind scooping up some tool deals over the holidays, I thought this one might cross-over to the boombox crowd. Dremels can be super handy when you need a small cut-off, grinder or sander. I haven't owned a cordless version but this looks like I could use it on a regular basis. $26.99 if you apply the discount code at the top of the website. https://shop.dremel.com/micro-reconditioned/
This 70's Toshiba RT-8600S just oozes coolness, they really went their own way with the smaller tape deck buttons and the trim rings on the sliders. Even the top mounted tuning knob is pretty cool, now I just need to know why the handle articulates in two places. Extremely nice looking and I bet it weighs a ton, boxes like this were very expensive in the 70's, usually a few hundred dollars and out of reach of most people. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-RA...470644?hash=item4b6fdf9434:g:Q5cAAOSwCXVd5PDu
The new Ion Boombox above is back at $69, I'm not sure if it's special pricing but get it now when it's half price! https://www.ebay.com/itm/ION-Audio-...827675?hash=item2f39998e5b:g:Z9EAAOSwhN1dgpnN
The collectors TV, Radio, Cassette Player! This is just fun to look at, I don't know what the quality is but isn't Nippon early NEC? I'm not sure, I have one Nippon Box around here and it's entry level at best. This must be small, look at the tape deck, the screen must be around 8" diagonal? There's not enough photos to see if it has batteries or a handle making it an early TV boombox. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NIPPON-TV-...a=0&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100752.m1982
Check out the photos, it looks really deep. And only 12 channels from a simplier time when all the shows were quality, like Elf, The Fall Guy, Knight Rider, Magnum PI and who could forget, Three's Company?
Before 1982 we had three channels here in the UK ! While we got quite a few American shows like Star Trek, UK companies were making quality shows with export in mind e.g. Thunderbirds, and Space 1999, plus loads of classic British Comedies you may not have heard of like Dad's Army and Are You Being Served ? Can you believe that all the American TV companies turned down Jim Henson's idea for an adult version of Sesame Street. A UK station saw the potential and persauded him to come here, providing the money and facilities for him to make The Muppets.
We got a lot of your shows on our PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) Channel, lot's of great stuff like Doctor Who and Monty Python, but they also had shows that were "upper crusty" that I didn't like. Late night on cable was the best, Benny Hill, Kenny Everett and some random others, I used to love that "dry" British Humor.
