i have had so,something like that and it was a sanyo but it was much better than that.....at launch it was £500, actually this might have been it, i do know it was mains only so i gave it back
I've got the 2002 JVC Hello Kitty Version of the MD/CD/Cassette (no batteries). I really like it, one of the better kind-of boomboxes but JDM only, I think most companies had something similar. Solid build with a neat tuning display, I just need to find the remote for it.

An unnamed AIWA DAT Player from 1989 before introduction, not only is it a portable DAT but it will also record still video images, this was really cool back then and very ground-breaking.
How about the "Royal Walkman" Set? Talk about a unicorn model, maybe one of the members will post theirs, I don't ever remember seeing it before. There's so much neat old equipment out there and the design still looks interesting, even if you had it on your desk I'm sure people would want to check it out. I'm really drooling over the JVC XM-D1, anybody seen one of those? At $1300, I can't believe there are many around, most likely aimed at the professional market.

Who want's to see some of the grand-daddies? Believe it or not Concord was there in the beginning, this is from 1969, portable radio cassettes were hot!, that's what we wanted a bigger portable radio and a way to record songs off of the radio. Concord had a big offering, maybe the biggest. I don't know much about Concord but they were making car tape decks well into the 80's.
