Has anyone thought of laser engraving the words that say Dolby NR ON OFF etc on a Walkman?
With use they are wearing out
Probably same is happening on other people's Walkmans

Worn off lettering is the one of the most frustrating issues in the audio world. Some units it stays on forever and some comes off with a little cleaning. There's been all kinds of methods tried and some may work, I think there's guys laser-etching Marantz Front Panels that look spot-on. I've tried a few different things over the years, screen printing it might be easy if it's a flat surface. 8-bit guy has tried some different methods I think he's got two or three videos with stick on labels.

I posted a thread a long time ago on 3m's Lettering System, you can still buy the materials.

    Good luck!

yes, I thought about it a lot and did some research to find out about the possible options.

For now I can tell you that the best way is to print the words on walkman case using UV flatbed printer, but even with that one you need special UV printer to print on walkman sides.
When you place the object under UV printer head it should be at certain distance from it, practically I have no problem printing on front or back plate of walkman but I don't know how to print on walkman sides yet. UV printer comes in handheld version too where you can just print on any object regardless of the size of object.
There are 2 problems with handheld printers:
1 - you must be very accurate on printing the tiny words on exact spot. a tiny shake on your hand place the print on the wrong spot
2- Handheld printers use their own platform media and most of the time (as far as i researched the available ones in the market) you cannot use custom fonts which is very important to our hobby.

My DD3 has exactly the problem of having it all rub off from the sides in the way that I scraped all the rest because it was looking terrible
    The front is okay fortunately
I didn't though of those printers but laser although not making it look original could work, wouldn't rub off again ever if only used in the sides

I think laser engraving would be the more logical way although UV printing would make it look original
But as told by Boddokhan that it's hard to print on the sides, laser would be more versatile on that I think
I don't know if it's something that we clean our Walkmans with that makes it flake off or whatever, everything from the sides of my DD3 is gone, from the Headphones A,B, Volume,Dolby,Tape, all that's gone.
On the front is still okay exept the second A on Walkman which has a tiny bit of it missing, with time it will only get worse...I need to find a way to engrave it once it gets worse
Is laser engraving expensive? I have no idea, but since it's just tiny letter and no weird designs I don't see it being too hard to do
