hey folks, i want to share this beautyfull pocket reel-to-reel Sanyo MC-1 with you: ...check out those instructions inside the lid - so Nagra-like ! ...and with a real leather case - check size compared to a Sony WM-504... it's working but i have a problem with the batteries. it says "PEN LIGHT", wich are like AA-cells, but something like 3mm shorter so the contacts get bent terribly - anybody knows a solution ? i can't just put 6v from + to minus, as theres a mid-contact 3V wich gets used for the motor in play/rec- mode (...same thing in the Aiwa TP-60)...
But does the tape "self destruct in five seconds" when you finish receiving your mission Regarding the batteries Ím sure it was intended to use AAs. However, sizes wereńt quite as controlled back then especially when batteries were Zinc Carbon.
ha, longman - 100 points for you: i watched "mission impossible" in the early 70'ies and am a big fan of it since then (...and as a teenager i was totally in love with Barbara Bain !). all my pocket reel-to-reels do have the music and at least two or three "missions" on tape. if you switch on "play" they allways start with "...good morning mr.briggs (or mr. phelbs)... today i found out, that the AA ENELOOP recheargables do have this mm less so they fit perfect, even in the other ones.
But do you have the wig to complete the Mission though Funnily I didn't realise Barbara Bain was in Mission Impossible. need to get one of those great wigs indeed my MC-1 is the older model and doesn‘t appear in the series. it‘s actually the same as the MC-2 but no plastic, also got a Craig-aka named 401. ...and back to Barbara Bain: i did love her
I love those 60's open reel recorders, especially the small ones, they always have the tape still with them and usually some 50 year old recordings. What a great site. I have already spent an hour browsing through some of the categories which include Walkman's Personal Music Players, Pocket TVs, and even some miniature tape recorders (to get back on topic). I remember the strangely named "Flying Bomb" batteries in a couple of his pictures. There was a shop called Hypervalue in Bristol which sold all sorts of strange Far Eastern products like those. Another thing I remember them having were Digital Pen Watches, which were considered Hi-Tech in the early 80s.

It would be interesting to know how much space his collection takes up. Apart from his furniture, which he probably uses, most of the items he collect are small, like pocket radios. If you look at his section on records he says that he quickly realised he didńt have room for what most people would consider to be "a record collection" these days. He appears to have written quite a few books about his little gadgets. He obviously isńt short of money, unless he bought things at a good time. The Sony TR55 transistor Radio, the first product to actually be labelled Sony, makes TPS-L2 prices look cheap.
The TR55 seems to have a bit of an identity crisis Somehow I don't think "It's a Tōkyō Tsūshin Kōgyō" would have worked as a marketing slogan outside of Japan. Tokyo Shibaura Denki were clever in what they did with their name though.

The packaging for the batteries is stunning, so beautiful, whatever happened to cool packaging, I'm afraid with globalization everything is getting homogenized and creativity has taken a big blow. I also miss the early days of the internet when there were a ton of webites like his that were taken away when the parent companies decided free hosting wasn't a good plan. Cool battery autoreverser!
...there should be a 9v block same type somewhere as well - have to dig it out. you can have it if you want...
