Hi there, So my dad found my old WM-EX1HG in a box of stuff at home. I was really excited to get my hands on it again. Sadly it didn't work. I popped the back open and realised the belt was broken so changed that and now I find myself in this position: https://photos.app.goo.gl/vU4zWM35GKtFnW5F7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/QF8BsgRDRdEkA4qB8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/BJoVyw8gLisugbQj9 So the motor seems to spin when I press play but then I hear three beeps and it stops. I stupidly tried it with a tape in and the play head is stuck out and so I can't eject. Have I bitten off more than I can chew? Any tips massively appreciated!! Thanks pcosmic
In that situation I think I would try a thin long rubber band just to see if you could get it to retract the head.
I'd probably be ok to sacrifice the tape and dremel the side off so i could push the head back in I guess!
That sounds like a recipe for damaging something. I'm not familiar with the player but there must be a pulley, cog, or something that you can turn to move the head.
Watch this video if it can help you .... you can see the mechanics move when press a button ..... you can compare it with yours. I have never disassembled or repaired this series but from experience I can say that in general all the movement of the head .. plays .. ff ..rw depends on an electromagnet and a gear wheel that acts as a cam ... if nothing moves O the solenoid does not go .. it locks or goes to stop ... and you have to completely disassemble it
Update! Well I took the dremel to the tape and managed to get the door open without harming the walkman. Silver965 thank you for the video. I'm back to the original problem now... When I press play or rewind, it only responds for a short amount of time. FF seems to work but intermittently only. See the video here https://photos.app.goo.gl/9BGGQ3ikQ6nrRRtq5 Again, any thoughts massively appreciated. Can't believe how much engineering there is packed into this walkman. It really is a work of art... let's hope we can get it working! Thanks!!
