Cool stuff for sale mega-thread.

I've seen that one over here Philip Taylor, When I was younger I remember seeing a square boombox with MiniDisc in the early 90's at our giant electronics chain Best Buy. It looked like a boombox without the egg influence. I've been searching for that model for a long time but still haven't seen it yet.

I think some markets got a lot more models than we did over here, mini-stereos weren't real popular but the super-cheap Fisher All-In-One sold like hot cakes. Something a little nicer but smaller (and more expensive) didn't have a chance.

 

Those models are badged either Sanyo or Fisher and the other Sharp. Sanyo bought Fisher and did what just about every other company did, turned them into entry-level crap, it even happened to Marantz for a while. I have noticed some old 80's ads for Fisher that looks like Sanyo did have some nicer versions but I've never seen the stuff, the crappy low-end Fisher killed the brand for most buyers over here.

Keep your eye's open for both of those models, they are pretty common here and go for $70-100 USD. One of the dilemmas of posting this equipment is you see a rise in the price but years ago, we rarely saw it put up for sale, personally I think it keeps people from throwing it out when they know there's collectors that love it. When I started the Ultimate Marantz Thread, only a unit or two would show up for sale every few years, I think I saw two in a six year time span, now there's a lot but everyone also wants big money for them.

 

The days of the $30 boombox are getting away from us, this MacDonald is a nice beefy 70's model, these are great for practicing repair work because they usually have a ton of metal framework and screws but everything is big and built solid. If no one bids, I may grab it, there's an AUX input if you want to run your phone through it.

The much rarer black version, we have the silver version over here, normally found with a tv set that it fits into.

 

I saw this cruising through the Superscope Listings, this is an oddball but still interesting. Superscope owned Marantz and had Sony Tape Player Distribution for North American until 1978. The Story Teller Product Line was a big part of Superscope at this time, right before VHS/Beta took off. As kids, we loved listening to prerecorded stories and Superscope was heavily invested in this market. I don't think the included tapes are Superscope Brands but for the hardcore Marantz Collector, you'll never see one of these again and for a small portable tape player, it's kind of nice looking.

Emerson is a company with many different brands and some outstanding products but in the world of audio they always tended to be entry-level. This Emerson CTR-950 Boombox is from the early days of boomboxes where even the private labeled stuff was heavy duty. Price-wise this is pretty expensive but since I posted the AKA MacDonald above I thought it was cool to display a rare alternative version. The red button doesn't look original.

I have a feeling it's pretty small, it looks like the taps are vertical in the front window so don't be surprised if it's like 10" across and a little taller than a standing cassette tape.

Interesting about the Coke Bottles, they may have been bigger here but I don't remember seeing one but I've seen a lot of Coke Collectors, they love anything with the name on it.

 

I think that's one of the reasons boombox weren't embraced more, they reminded people of the crappy little transistor radios that sounded best with talk radio.

 

I like it alot! Color too! TV boomers go for pretty good money over here, I think my biggest is 4" diagonal? Good idea on the books Longman, I should post some of those.
