    Hello all,

I came across this Fisher PCD-100 at the local flea market but I can't seem to find much info on it.
Whatsmore, it has an attached battery pack that indicates DC 6v with no input holes whereas the actual player indicates an 10.5-12v input.

I've plugged in a 6v adapter and the player powers on but it won't play.
Will the 6v adapter work as the battery charger, in which case I have to wait a while before it'll run?
Or will I have to find a 12v adapter to make it work? Or maybe it's just broken?

    Thanks for your help people

I'm also having a hard time finding an 12v AC adapter with the + to - entry. Most one the European market seem to have it the other way round, - to +
    Any ideas?

I'm not good with electronics but the bottom battery pack is 6 volts, the wall transformer connection is in the 12 volt range so I'd think underpowering it from an outlet might light up some low-voltage buttons but most of it won't work. The battery pack is most likely long gone and will never work but don't throw it out.

Fisher was owned by Sanyo when this came out so there's probably a Sanyo Version. I was just reading yesterday that most of Sanyo's Internal workings on the early CD Player Models were mostly Sony, pretty interesting. Early units like yours have been extremely difficult for me to find, maybe 4-5 over 20 years so you have a keeper.

For power I've got something like this photo, a wall transformer with multiple male fittings. You can rotate the plug to get the correct voltage, I've scored a ton of "non-working" Casio Keyboards because they thought they were dead but they use the reverse polarity and these transformers make it easy to correct.

It looks like there may be some corrosion inside the power jack, it may need some cleaning.

    Thanks Mister X
I've found this adaptor with right polarity and voltage so I'll see if the discman works when it arrives. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully the jack is the same size, but that's a cool adaptor, I wonder what it was for originally?

It is a beautiful Discman, I discussed the troubles of reviving mine at kaosuncd.com. Battery is charged by the Discman, you cannot charge it separately. Hope yours is working, it is not the easiest Discman to fix, but the end result looks very 'expensive' ;):

That's a very nice looking player, the Fisher Product Line is all over the place, every once in a while something interesting pops up. For some reason the portables are much nicer than the home audio equipment.

The one I've got came as a set with the TCM-5000EV

The discman looks really cool! You don't see that script-style font often on portables. Gives it a "royal" feel

The jack looks to be the right size but I'll let you know when it gets here.
The whole thing does look great but there's some slight leakage in the lcd display but that shouldn't be too problematic

    Hi Jorge
Do you know what size the jack is?

It is the standard Sony 1985-89: centenegative, 5.5mm x 2.1mm plug. The one you bought should be a prefect fit.

What a pity!! you may try to gently squeeze it out, but even if succeeded 50:50 it will seep back.......... Kaosun of kaosuncd.com might be able to tell you which Toshiba model may be used as an 'organ donor' for the display.

So the good news is the jack is a perfect fit. The better news is I found the case to go with the discman and the great news is it works perfectly...

That's a pretty rare model, how did you find the case?

Jorge, I never heard about moving the fluid out, I'll have to look that up, thanks!

I left my number with the guy in case he comes across something similar. He rang me to say he’d found the case. He also has a Sony D-303

The only old Sony I have is a D-5 and a handful of other models, I love them all but old high-end units are non-existant in the wild and that's where I've found all of mine. I collect the units more for fun, if I want better quality I go to my main stereo system but sometimes I get the urge to AUX in the little guys and see what they have.
