That Jack Berg site is bizarre, it's never changed in format in at least 15 years, and many of the buttons don't even work. And his images are only like 300 x 200, lol.

Wow, that's not surprising. They're probably too old and set in their ways to consider adding Paypal or credit card. Or they don't know how. They should really get a younger or more tech-savvy person to help them with that site.

Or maybe they're not willing to accept the 3-4% fees from Paypal/Visa/MC, which I can understand.........but I can guarantee they're losing sales from people who don't want to send a check, or who take one look at their site and dismiss it because it looks like it's ancient and that nobody's home anymore.

I would guess that model was about $100 back in 1978. Here in the UK someone did find several hundred 1990s Maxim boomboxes and was selling them on Ebay for about £80 each. I just checked and there are now three people asking about three times that price.

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=maxim+boombox&_sacat=0

I recently came across someone selling Atari ST upgrade boards who was very anti Ebay and Paypal devoted an entire page of their website to why they would never use either service again.

It seems more likely that the Jack Berg company just hasn't kept up with the times.

Locally we had a Shortwave / Ham Radio shop opened by someone I know. He was selling equipment all around the world. Once he got his state pension he sold the business to someone else who did nothing to maintain the website and stopped opening on Saturdays! I am surprised it lasted as long as it did with the second owner running it. It closed and then became a Vape Shop.

    Hitachi or Maxim?

Unlike my main Stereo where I do not mind spending over $1k on power cords, my acceptance level for bboxes is pretty low as long as the build quality is easy on the eyes and solid to the touch. Hitachi TRK-5190 was one of my favorites, built like a tank

Funny thing about the square woofer fad: The discount brands would actually use conventional round woofers covered with a square piece of fabric.

The awesome little Pioneer SK-Q10, one of the coolest minis and they seem to be pretty rare. Outstanding Pioneer Build Quality and a real head-turner for something so small. It's not the smallest but it's pretty close, not counting the Sanyo/Fisher MC Player that's tiny. Silly money for this one but you won't be sorry and I've only seen 3 or 4 come up for sale over the last 15 years.

Hey, it might be a crappy brand, but it's new and it looks cool with that G-Shock style closure.

"Electro-Brand has made a splash in the portable tape player market with the introduction of Sports Model Cassette Tape Player earlier this month. Using a name previously held by Sony, they hope to gain a major foothold in the highly sought after North American Market. Electro-Brand hopes to follow this success with several other models including the Boodo Can and the WM-D6eb Stereo Recorder"......
