Hello Everyone, I just finished my latest restoration My Sony Walkman Model WM-1 built in 1981. Anyway, I have had this Walkman for many years, and it has not worked for over 20 years. Sincerely Rich P.S. I listened to a little Elvis
Nice! For some reason the "New Posts" link at the top doesn't work for me so I'm a little late but that's a cool addition for any Sony Collection. Any insight on how this unit improved the Walkman Line? I'm a huge fan of the big clunky models, they were so nice compared to the really old-school mono decks everyone had.
Hello Mister X, I agree well when finished this unit I pulled out one my New old stock Elvis Presley cassette tapes and wow I used my good Sony studio headphones. There was some good frequency response from highs to bass notes. This unit was never sold to a customer See I am the third owner of a radio and tv business which started in the 1940s and from the Beginning of Sony in America the business sold and serviced their products. I even had taken Sony training on some their equipment I stopped being Sony warranty just before 2000. Anyway I have a second one of this same model that picked up used for spare parts but it ended up having the same piece broken and also a missing battery door and wore of paint in spots. Sincerely Rich
I'd love to stop by and have a few beers with you, the stories from the 70-80's must be interesting. One of the reasons I have so much stuff is that I thought I might open up a little shop in the winter when contractor season is dead. I stocked up on audio stuff but was never able to find a retail location for cheap. Feel free to post that equipment, NOS Elvis, Sony Studio Headphones! We'd love to hear and see more!
hello Mister X, I had busy week but that weekend I dug into my Penncrest model 4375 made by Panasonic it is a boombox with a built in record player !
It must be a little older, I don't think I've ever seen a Penny's Portable Turntable besides the little 45 players from the early 70's.
Hello Mr X , I will post some more photos this weekend it does work but I need to replace some the capacitors and clean the volume controls and the Pots too. Then it needs a new power cord and the battery springs along with the external speaker jack has rust from the battery leakage. Sincerely Rich
Panasonic kept revisiting this idea until CDs had well and truly taken over and some 1980s models including one my Father bought. http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/triple-take-it-on-the-run-baby.1564/page-2
We had a portable TT when we were kids but we never took it anywhere; the portablility factor would have been nice if you could afford the super-expensive batteries. I need to get my AIWA refreshed one of these days.
i love a good portable turntable... just finished servicing a Sound Burger... these delights above have made my day!
