    Hi everyone!

I grew up with Sony products and still own several Walkman, the oldest of which is the WM-7. I love Sony products of that era, they were so well engineered.

I've recently been resurrecting a Sinclair ZX Spectrum and needed a cassette player so I could load games, and that led me to resurrecting my WM-7. One addiction leads to another!

    Glad to find this forum!

Welcome nigels! I had a little Sinclair ZX81 early in my coding life, I loved those days dreaming about the newest gadgets.

Thank you, Mister X, Those early personal computers really opened a lot of people's eyes to careers in technology. Their relative affordability was disruptive in a very positive way. I still have my Acorn Atom, Acorn Electron, ZX Spectrum, and QL computers that I hope to resurrect.

    Welcome to Stereo2go nigels

My friends had ZX Spectrums but I have an Amstrad 6128, both using the Zialog Z80 CPU. I always wanted a Commodore Amiga 500, but never did get one.

    Welcome

Your computers are strange choices for someone in the USA unless you moved there.
I doubt if many people in the USA know what an Acorn Atom is.

    My first three computers were
    • Sinclair ZX81 - built from a kit which took about eight weeks to turn up.
    • TI-99/4A - bought when they were heavily discounted. Rubbish without the memory expansion module (which would have cost several times the price of the computer
    • Toshiba HX10 MSX - heavily discounted. Built as you would expect a Japanese product to be and so good I still have it. Admittedly many of the games were Spectrum ports.
@TooCooL4 I have never had an Amiga 500 either but now have two A1200s in my collection (somewhere).
    @Daniela two C64s as well

I'm betting with that name he moved here; yea we had Sinclair but by the time the Spectrum came out they were gone. We never saw the Japanese or English Computers back then.

Commodore, Atari, and in the beginning Tandy did well in the U.K.
At one point the U.K. had more home computers per capita than any other country.
As for Apple, until the Mac (which was popular in business), Ferrari probably sold as many cars here as Apple sold computers as Ferraris were better value for money.

You're correct, I grew up in the UK and was lucky to have access to a lot of early personal computers, like the Acorn Atom. I brought them all with me when I relocated to the US.

We've discussed computers a lot on the forum, feel free to post anything you have. Like I said, we just didn't see anything other than Apple, IBM, Tandy (Radio Shack), Commodore and the smaller USA Brands like Texas Instruments. I had some exposure to the UK Computers from BBC Shows that they played on our early morning TV but I never knew about all of the Japanese Computers. It was such a facinating part of modern industrial history.
