I don't have the Technics, I did find the Quasar CD8966 a couple years ago and it has the "battery pack." Basically it's a flat rechargable battery that mounts on the bottom and the unit gets 33% bigger. I'm sure that wasn't included with the marketing brochures, they pushed the battery in a bag so the unit looks tiny. I think Longman is saying how fast they miniaturized the CD player, which is amazing, those were good times, when a trip to the electronic store could last a few hours.
I searched for the case only, and there are several for sale on eBay. The small CD portable player all of a sudden grows in size when fitted. I do agree the rate of miniaturization is incredible amongst these portables by the way.
I thought this little Quasar UP1348E Spectator looked neat, anybody seen one of these? From 1989, big money when you cold get a Casio for a fraction of the price.
Some of the gadgets were pretty neat but alot of them were lo-fi. I do like anything that fits into a cassette case since most of us had the big cassette wall racks.
I try to file stuff so I don't duplicate but it's getting hard with some of these threads, hopefully this is new, from Popular Science 1981. I love this line-up but I still don't have the Sony TCS yet, these early chunky models were still pretty expensive and way out of my reach.

Groovy! Philips had some neat looking 70's players, too bad they didn't carry over as much with the stereo units. Do the red dots on the tape cover mean anything?
Not sure if the dots have a meaning. On @Magnotron ‘s collection they seem similar. We've seen this interesting model before, usually cheesy brand extras, maybe sold next to the main focus, something like swimsuits or cologne.
