I should have done this a long time ago but I had no idea there were so many different ads out there. Here's the beautiful Sony CF-480S from 1976, the mid-70's is when boomboxes really started looking good and beefy, this has seven piano keys!

Sony CF-950S from 1977, this goes on my list of one of the coolest boomboxes ever, I'd love to see one up close.

The Sony Voyager Walkman from 1985, I've never seen the Voyager Name on it before, this if from German Playboy and it's double-paged, big money!

Sony CF-410 from 1973. Popular but still pretty expensive, maybe $200-300 USD?

Sony CFS-45S 1980, nice boxes but not as nice as earlier models, this is probably the point where they could make cheaper versions of the boombox. The multi-band radio is always a plus, we only had AM/FM and it looks much worse.

I've got to like an advert for my first Boombox/Radio Cassette. A shame the young lady behind it wasn't included :wink2
At the time this was the bottom of the Sony stereo range, yet it still cost about 1/6th of the price of my new motorbike, bought the same year.

This bottom of the range is still a ton better than some of the other brands models that followed it plus it's not a bad looking box.

Back then, if you couldn't afford stereo or wanted something lighter, they would have suggested a mono box like the one at the bottom of the advert. A few years later, cheap mini stereo boxes came to dominate that market. We could try and work out which the first one of those was. The Sharp QT range were the most popular but I suspect it was more likely to be an obscure brand like Unisef.

I wonder how good the speakers are, they look nice. I only have one pair of Sony Full-Size Speakers some really cheap APMs that I was going to trash and keep the drivers.

Too bad it does not specify the models ... but classifies the 4 HIFI systems according to the amplifier

Sony TC-40 from 1971, I have to believe this was pretty amazing at the time, recording sound was new and fun, everyone wanted to do it.

    Sony Boomboxes 1972
Some great pricing information and you know I like the accessories. What's the deal with all of the antennas on the front page? They also have a few different ends, something I always check out. Superscope has the white rounded tips, Sony is all over the place. The little tiny radios are really neat and CF-1050 might qualify as the first mini-boombox, beating the Toshiba by three years!

oh yea, check out the little drawing, what's up with that? just a little risque?
