Here's a rare one, some say one of the best ever made by Sony from 1981, the CFS-F40

Sony CF-580 from 1976, only $400 USD? A new car was around $3000! These were not cheap when they came out.

My very first radio/casette player that I bought in Malaysia back in 1978. I no longer have the player but for some reason kept the operating instructions. The unit came out in 1976

Mr X. Just going through one of my old drawers and came across these that I bought years ago. Longman ,I think, may had had this Betamax Recorder, or something similar. Appologies if I should be putting this in another thread.

I got a 570 last year and love it, I'm kinda searching for these other ones at a reasonable price, they are super-nice builds. What was the shop like where you picked up the 560 Derek, I imagine a little store stuffed with electronics.

Mr X. I picked the 560 in a large department store in Ipoh. I remember it had quite a selection of different makes- pioneer, aiwa and Panasonic I think. I remember listening to various makes and models before deciding on the 560.

I think that the SL-C6 might have been Sony's most popular Betamax VCR. However, by the late 1980s you could pick them up for about £10. At one point I had three and managed to make two working ones by swapping parts. Something I remember was how many circuit boards there were inside. I reckon the small are where the tape went in was the only place where there wasn't a circuit board.

Since the theme is Sony ads lets have an amusing ad for the SL-C6

Longman. Never seen that add before. Brilliant. Did you have the remote control with yours. I still have the operating instructions booklet for the C6.

I don't think that model had a remote control. Back then you had to pay £100+ for the next model up if you wanted that. Some more details

My first VCR, a VHS Mitsubishi, actually did come with a remote control. Three buttons (forwards and backwards search, and pause) on a small box at the end of a 10 foot long cable you had to plug into the VCR.
