So it appears there was a remote control, but it was an optional extra with its own instruction manual. I wonder how much that cost. Probably a lot as I have never seen one. Again with only three buttons it wasn't very useful.

The remote on my next VCR was the opposite with dozens of buttons and an LCD display.

Quite right. It may have been 50 pounds or more. Cannot remember now.

Great find Derek, do you have more issues of What's HiFi? Some other articles have been posted on here in the past with portable reviews.....

Check out this cool Sony ICF-3000W from 1976! Anybody seen this one? Check out the clock, it's so cool they even labeled the Japanese Movement on the front. This and the last few ads are out of Esquire Magazine over on archive.org, it's a high-end lifestyle magazine, I've been drooling over all of the 70's cool car ads they have.

Quartz clocks were a big deal back in 1976. I looked in the 1976 Argos catalogue and of the forty or so clocks for sale only forty were quartz. The cheapest of those was £11.25.

The equivalent of £60 in 2021 money. For less than half the price of a Quartz clock you could buy a Sharp pocket radio.

Unfortunately I don't have any more what's Hi-Fi articles. Years ago I always got the What Hi Fi brochures each month I think but I'm afraid they are long gone.
