Hi @Longman ... every now and then I look for these pieces and it doesn't happen very often to find them for sale ... given the low price for sure I would have made my offer but ebay does not allow me .. If you have one to sell the same to that .. we could find an agreement
I can imagine @Mister X liking this Sanyo https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403707400180?hash=item5dfed60ff4:g:35EAAOSwXUlioboo While browsing TV-Radio-Cassettes I also spotted https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354052586791?hash=item526f2dbd27:g:~5MAAOSw9d5iekgK I would guess the sound quality was better than the picture.
I think this Sony cfs-100 is worth looking at too Sony CFS-100 Stereo Cassette-Corder mini stereo - boombox vintage retrò | eBay
I've got that big Sanyo, it's awesome! Big beautiful metal knurled dials, dual VU's, yeah I'd say it was a statement piece for them. Going for dirt cheap over there, you guys always have more selections and bargains.
I love that Sony unit! Bonus is I'm heading over his way next week on holiday so could save myself some postage!
Sweet old display shelf for AIWA, unfortunately for me, shipping is a deal killer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/155042689455?hash=item241943b1af:g:vp8AAOSwkqJireZw
Get in before the bidding gets really hot, it's just a hair under $11,000 USD but you may have a chance! https://www.ebay.com/itm/384951538278?
Absolute bargain! Though I guess it will eventually drop the prices on TPS-L2's now the nostalgia of being in a film has subsided and focus in on this model instead....
These are also beautiful Vintage Panasonic RX-F32LS Cassette Radio BoomBox.Very rare Red color!Just look! | eBay Toschiba RT-2800 Directional Radio Cassette Recorder, Multi Play Microphone | eBay
The funny thing is I can imagine the Stranger Things prop buyer picking one of these because they thought a TPS-L2 was too expensive. Whoever, picked the background for the Toshiba photo knew want they were doing. The unit itself looks like a prop from a Mad Max film.
I apologize I posted in Italian ... That seller has a lot of cool stuff, I don't want to advertise them. I found out that he is on ebay with at least two accounts. the connection with the radio and the one, and this and the other Ghetto Blaster Stereo Recorder Sound 4010, 220V, 8x1, 5V | eBay
And that's weird because I posted this a few months back! https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/songs-you-hated-in-the-80s-but-now-love.7606/ But now I hate the song again cuz they're playing it all of the time..... We need to get some of these for the secret personal cassette B&B club, carried from city to city for member's meetings. I love the glass shape, like an aluminum can! https://www.favorsandflowers.com/cassette-tape-personalized-16-oz-craft-beer-can-glass/#&gid=1&pid=1
Feature a walkman in a movie/TV series and everybody will desire it ! Of course desire does not mean those people are actually willing to spend 10K on one and that's the good part ! Watched that listing myself and it seemed to have sold initially, but now I can find it again, so it didn't actually sell or the biddings were fake (made by the seller from different accounts). The walkman is now listed at 10K USD (fixed price): https://www.ebay.com/itm/384983023358 So it seems the world has not gone mad. Things are clear: given device wasn't sold, it means there are no people there wanting to spend that much on it (at least at the moment). Not to mention there are other WM-8 listings at much lower prices (but still high for a plasticky walkman). This kind of listing, even if it's going to sell at some point, won't sell overnight as some people are tempted to believe. If that was the case, it would already be sold by now. EDIT: It is also to be noted how the market has opened up after this listing was posted. Before it, finding a WM-8 was pretty hard, you could find 1-2 listings. Now there are 10 just on ebay. This is again, indication that these devices are out there, even if not necesarilly listed for sale at a specific point in time. Sellers obviously want to create the feeling there's a shortage (even when that's not the case), in order to justify making the market a sellers' market instead of a buyers' market.
I'm no ebay-er so I'm not familiar with these 'auctions'. Your story reads very plausible. Thanks for your explanation. So it look to be fake to let it look that these are the prices to be paid for this walkman. Even for a TPS-L2 ('Guardians') more than 1000 euro/dollar is much to high a price IMHO, and as you say, this WM-8 is nothing special really. Luckily the world has not gone mad yet (for now).
