    Hi All,

my name is Danilo, 37. Originally from Italy but I live in Slovakia where I started a new experimental music project using old tapes, walkmen, tape voice recorders and microcassette voice recorders. I combine field recordings on cassette, together with my digital works. You can find me as macroPath on Bandcamp.

While for my music project I'm already using some fully working devices, I also got few which are getting broken or arrived broken after purchasing them on eBay.

I'm here trying to get some tips and advises on how to fix my voice recorders. It can be challenging for me but I'm pretty handy and I think I have all the essential tools I need.

Hope you will be able to help.

    Thanks

    Dani

That's a custom box I've made for myself, just to transport and contain my little dictaphones army :))

I also work with wood and can make kind of same customised box if anyone's interested. This is my Page:

Hi! So glad that you liked my ambient and thanks for the purchase ;) I'm currently working on my next album, ''Tagus'', where I will use more field recordings on tapes. Looking forward to release it, hope by end of this year.

    Thanks!

I should transfer 'Discovery' onto my Pono player for headphone listening, will get back to Bandcamp for your other works, to help you a bit with TASCAM Porta Two purchase. Beautiful machine!!

Love the cover of Discovery, resembles artworks by my favorite ECM label. What is it on the cover of OverGod and Live? Dental x-ray? :D

Hi! Yes also on headphone the listening is recommended for this kind of ambient music.

Thanks, I really appreciate. Hope to get that Tascam soon to improve my sound and experiments with tapes. Actually ''Discovery'', my second release, doesn't have that much of analog field recordings lo-fi, but just digital. In the last two years I discovered the beauty of tapes, dictaphones and walkman, that I'm using to produce my third release.

My first release OverGod is more Sci-Fi soundtracking/Electronica, that's before moving to more ambient/drone stuff. But I think is still something interesting if linked to visuals or movies.

Regarding the Covers ... Discovery is just a low-fi picture of a foggy path on Tatra mountains, Slovakia, during a lonely trip. OverGod is a macro photo of a flower, and the Live cover I have no idea, I just took it from the Facebook event.

Thanks to Subscribe if you like. I will also post some walkman&dictaphones repairing videos.

My next challenge will be trying to repair 5 same Sony dictaphones broken which I bought on eBay from Lithuania. So, stay tuned :D

Hi Dani and welcome to the forum !

The way you compose music looks very interesting to me, it seems unique (at least to me).
Please explain in more detail how do you use those dictaphones in your music production, I'm certainly curious to know and bet I'm not the only one.

I did check out "Discovery" on bandcamp and I like how it sounds. Electronic music is one of my favourites, so will be looking forward to your future releases !

    Hi Valentin,

thanks a lot for supporting me on Bandcamp. I really appreciated. Hope you're enjoying my sounds.

Well, recently I've seen many artists playing with cassettes but they get into much extremes stuff at some point. Me I'm trying to combine my digital works together with some field recordings coming from my tapes which you can hear in the background.

Actually in ''Discovery'' I didn't use almost at all tapes, but just digital recordings on a ZOOM H1. Tapes is something I started including in the last 3 years but I haven't released anything so far. Working on ''Tagus'' right now, my 3rd work, where I''ll be using lot more low-fi sounds coming from real tapes and dictaphones.

In the details, I basically use two main dictaphones for field recordings, 1 microcassette and 1 with normal ones. I use them together with my ZOOM H1 connected in the Line In/Mic of the dictaphones to have a better quality of the sound. Once I catch all the sounds I need, I transfer the master tape into digital DAW where I cut the best parts to create different loops.

Once 1 loop is done, I put it back on a blank cassette/microcassette using same dictaphones and Line In/Mic. Sometimes I also make loops of something I play in the same way, some Piano for example, and not just field recordings. Doing so I always have a 30 mins or more Loop for each side of the cassettes which I can use to perform live.

For live I use my main dictaphones, 3 micro and 3 normal, plus some additional walkman, just in case. The sounds coming from dictaphones are controlled by my small mixer and according to the need I combine them with my digital works coming from my laptop.

I prefer using dictaphones because you can regulate the speed, and that's so cool. You can slow down a piano or whatever you like, giving a darker effect to everything.

Now I got my TASCAM PortaStudio TWO, so that's opening me a new portal as I will maybe no longer need to use my laptop and I could transfer also my digital works into a cassette in 4 tracks and play with it Live.

Let me know if you'd like to ask me something else, and thanks again for the support ;)

    Hi dear members!

I joined this forum some time ago because I was looking for help to repair the dictaphones I'm using for my music project, and so far thanks to your help and advices I was able to fix plenty of them and make many lo-fi field recordings on tape.

I collected all these field recordings and I made my new ambient album out of them.

I'm happy to announce the releasing of ''TAGUS | The Breath Of A River'', an ambient\drone collection of ideas and lo fi field recordings.

If you're into this kind of genre, I hope you will enjoy it.

Please, have a listen on my Bandcamp. You can also download the tracks for free and send me a little contribution to support me if you'd like to:

I also have a YT Channel where I post my music and also some repair videos:

Yes I will check this out especially if Jorge thought it good enough to support the Discovery one. Always interested in finding new electronic ambient.
