The TPS-L2 has a special place in history, I remember them always going for more than most models but 20 years ago they were still considered throw-aways and guys were getting great deals on them in the wild.

I checked completed listing and thought the original price was achievable. I think Weltron products are more in the category of pop-art or sculpture than HiFi. If you just wanted something to play records and 8 track carts you could probably pick up something just as good in a veneered cabinet for around £100. This system from the same era is at the opposite extreme styling wise although it wouldn't surprise me if it sounds better.

Of course none of these HiFi systems were cheap in the 1970s. This article about the Weltron thinks about $1650 adjusted for inflation.

Hitachi had some great quality models before they went downhill.
You only had a couple truly shitte brands: Saisho, Ferguson, and Amstrad.
We had Yorx, Emerson, Helix, General Sound, Lloyds, and several others. Seems like most of the huge low-quality piano-black boxes stayed over here.

I kind of agree with you Reli....i have never been into the black plastic fantastic boxes like lasonic and others but i guess that is down to my own personal opinion lad.....i had the jc 2000 the big one and that put me off for life....the only thing good about the jc 2000 was the comedy value lol...all they represent to me is cheese and shite build quality but i get the appeal of them
