The TPS-L2 has a special place in history, I remember them always going for more than most models but 20 years ago they were still considered throw-aways and guys were getting great deals on them in the wild.
I only just saw this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/snoopy-c...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 You have to admit that Snoopy and Woodstock listening to a boombox is pretty 80s.
I'm sure my brother has a white version of this calculator somewhere, I remember him being very protective of it when we were kids.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403745531711?hash=item5e011be73f:g:owYAAOSwFHJimRVR There appear to be about four different colours each with a different picture.
This one definitely fits into the cool category. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165474988428?hash=item268713f18c:g:se8AAOSwFc9ieXtQ The record deck is a bit of a let-down though as it looks to be a standard BSR exactly the same as the one that was in a Dansette record player my parents bought in the early 1970s.
I checked completed listing and thought the original price was achievable. I think Weltron products are more in the category of pop-art or sculpture than HiFi. If you just wanted something to play records and 8 track carts you could probably pick up something just as good in a veneered cabinet for around £100. This system from the same era is at the opposite extreme styling wise although it wouldn't surprise me if it sounds better. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dynatron...eakers-and-record-audio-cabinet-/134156678511 Of course none of these HiFi systems were cheap in the 1970s. This article about the Weltron thinks about $1650 adjusted for inflation. https://www.clutterfingers.com/listing/667816402/setron-weltron-2005-space-odyssey-stereo
Own one of the rarest Walkmans and cars, Longman pointed out awhile back that this car has an imbedded special edition walkman, now on sale in the USA! https://www.vansfromjapan.com/inventory/TOYOTA/CENTURY/100168/
I wonder if @LIVO has one of these monsters ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374036907118 I'm sure it cost much more than that new.
I had one longman cost £1 off ebay years ago,,,,,superb box but mains only i offered the seller to keep his box as it only sold for £1 but he was to kind and sent it anyway....i would buy this one but it has some bad scratches on the top....and i have just bought several boxes and need every penny at the moment
I made an offer of £80 and it was accepted Longman, i hate you lol i think they were about £500 new as they weigh a tonne, not you're typical egg
you are quite correct Reli lad.....but we normally get all the shite boxes like hitatchi and all the low end sharps......anything worth while they have gone just as daft over here my friend
Hitachi had some great quality models before they went downhill. You only had a couple truly shitte brands: Saisho, Ferguson, and Amstrad. We had Yorx, Emerson, Helix, General Sound, Lloyds, and several others. Seems like most of the huge low-quality piano-black boxes stayed over here.
Again i am referring to hitachi sound quality in the 70's 80'sRreli....it's about as inspiring as an m70 in a lucky dip lad lol
I kind of agree with you Reli....i have never been into the black plastic fantastic boxes like lasonic and others but i guess that is down to my own personal opinion lad.....i had the jc 2000 the big one and that put me off for life....the only thing good about the jc 2000 was the comedy value lol...all they represent to me is cheese and shite build quality but i get the appeal of them
