no, not yet. Once done, I will be bragging about it shamelessly all over S2G do not have enough workspace to work on something this big, only baby-Discmans on my desk now... here it is, next to Panasonic:
I got to touch the "World's Biggest Boombox" recently, it's a huge, some-what rare Conion, it's like four feet wide x a foot or so tall. Flea market quality but it's a looker. I love the Panasonics and have almost pulled the trigger on one but my mule's home isn't huge and I don't think he'd be happy holding on to it for a few months.
i have the big one....it is very loud but no where like the funken for sound....i had to mod mine by drilling holes in the back of the speakers and it made the sound much warmer then mr x.........the deck died in five minutes tho so it has been abandoned in my kitchen..........did anybody tell you i hate hate phillips with a passion, it's always the stupid cogs, good luck repairing one, even tho you can get repro cogs now, i flipping won't be repairing it, the repair challenges the best of them....the biggest box on record is the elta master blaster jc 2000 heelix wheely 5000..."10 woofers, makes a 777 look like a walkman but they are shit, i was glad to get shot of mine........those 2 big boxes good ol Reli posted, i don't class them as a true boombox as the speakers are separate from the box and they have never interested me i'm afraid
What about the Epsilon EP-008? Yes this beast is over 48" wide! Epsilon is a brand of Conion, if you do some looks around the net you can find "Epsilon by Conion" badges out there. Now it may not pass the rice test but it's freakin huge. A local collector had this, he wanted silly money for it thinking there was only 1 other one in the USA.
Here's another post of that. He says it's 44-3/4" long. https://www.facebook.com/5185867749...x-stereo-this-one-is-awesom/3064294640345473/
I just created a new wiki page for it: http://wikiboombox.com/tiki-index.php?page=Conion+Epsilon+EP-008
Let me know when you've finished working on it! It was probably just a blown rectifier or something like that. I played it side by side with a Sony FH-215R. The Sony was definitely louder, brutal even....but the Telefunken sounded better IMO.....Warmer and just better to listen to at low indoor volume levels. The only other 80's boxes that might be able to beat it are the Pioneer CK-11 or the National RX-XE520, but I've never heard either of them.
in this case i tend to agree Reli, the funken has more of a good quality 70's warm sound....i have not compared them side by dide but in this case i don't need to my friend.....i would love to put the funken on my mission 705 but it's to much headwork these days just taken in the last box i'm getting, a toshiba s90, 3rd time lucky, i'm still betting it doesn't work lads
I've still never heard an S90, I hear they're great. Unfortunately most have corrosion on the front due to Japan's saltwater in the air
this tosh was caked in what looked like chromerot Reli...i was gunna send it straight back......but it has all cleaned off with wd40.....the biggest annoyance the tuner is fucked but they always are....but i'm giving it to my engineer.........he can recap the tuner......the tape deck works great tho...as for sound quality great highs and sounds much better than a sanyo 920.....i just can't tolerate those lol
Got a Wiki Entry! The Epsilon is wild, the size factor is amazing. The one I looked at didn't have any Conion Branding on it but the owner said it was on the net. Oddly it's made in Korea, aren't there some other Epsilon Portables out there?
There's an EP-007, an EP-008, and a stripped-down version of the Conion TC-999 with what looks like fake tweeters and a sticker that tries to look like a graphic equalizer lol
This is on Ebay right now, it's kind of interesting looking... The Good Old Days Boombox! https://www.ebay.com/itm/354514714590
It will soon be in a thift store for $15 (or the equivalent in yen) What is with the external AM antenna ? Those are common with music centres and HiFi stacks but I have never seen one on a portable (which isn't with that dangling out of the back). p.s. For years there was a variety show on U.K. TV called The Good Old Days Maybe they should resurrect it but have an audience with 80s style shoulder pads, neon colours, and stone washed denim etc.
I kind of like the feeling that they gave some kids a bunch of parts and said "make a boombox," some of it looks ok, some of it looks like a kid designed it. Longman, lots of 70's boomboxes had external connections for antennas but this one is kind of rare because it looks like this one uses a special connector instead of bare wire and slotted screws.
"This is Mr Chef. If you have this knowledge you can become a great chef no matter how bad you are at cooking. If I had such a convenient thing and I was still bad at cooking ... I would be in trouble. Insert a cassette containing information necessary for cooking, such as heating. After all, this is the best part. However, nothing can be done unless the ingredients are in the oven. This cooking cassette is also sold separately along with the cooking book.
As for that Good Old Days JQA JQ 10812 I can't find anything on Google about it. Hmm. All new attempts at boombox reproductions are amusing and worth checking out I say.
