Anyone else spot the massive typo in this one.
Since when has 50-1000 cps been a "wide frequency range" ?
Old fashioned telephones could manage 3400 cps

I have no idea, I just remember that metal tapes were expensive, I never bought one or even owned equipment that I thought justified buying metal tapes. As a broke college kid I would buy Maxell UD XL II's as my tape of choice but even those were expensive, something like $2 USD minimum when they went on sale.

We have discussed before the 1980s obsession with Turbo.
Does Turbocharging your cassette deck give it a high pitched whine ?

I saw a mint 924 a couple years back, it only had 7,000 miles on it and was for sale. I asked the original owner why he didn't drive it more, he just never had the time.

Sony HF-S from 1985. How come all of the cool little Fords never made it over here? You have to love those rims and the roll-over bar makes it look fast but it's probably a little 1.8L at most, anybody know?

I'm surpised tape protection like this wasn't more popular, I picked up a Sony Tape this summer with a sliding case but I rarely see anything similar. I'll have to look up to see if they were patented.

No idea about Metal Master but Sony ES Metal cassettes were about double the price of Maxell MX Metal.
    In ‘88 , Sony ES 90min $11.95, Maxell MX 90min $6.15. TDK MA-X were only $5., Nakamichi ZX Reference metal 90min were $10

Sony Metal ES '86-'87 era are my alltime favourite tape, but the '88 era ES actually sounds better than the MM.
Has it been discussed here before? It's kind of well-known/accepted on tapeheads.net and when I managed to get hold of an MM to do some prolonged recording/listening tests I also drew the same conclusions.
I stayed away from TDK MA-XG due to the white powder issues they suffer from now.
Have about 20 used and NOS '88 era ES tapes and prize them above all others.

One of these days I was going to start a cassette tape thread and dig into the cassette reviews and compile them. I wonder if these were reviewed side by side in any of the reviews. The Metal Masters go for about 3x the price of the Metal-ES over here and I've never seen or found one in the wild. Are you recording albums or using MICs at live recordings?

I can see a marantz in the corner but can't figure out what it is.....
