Is this personal CD player an oddity?

My preference is for square personal CD players, followed by round ones, and finally semi-circular ones. Therefore, I normally would not have been interested in this unit, but I'm quite partial to Kenwood and the color caught my eye. It was located in Japan, as the DPC-361 appears to have been only offered abroad, in 1995-96. I think there would have been a similar model with a different model number for the states. The label confirms that this particular unit was for the Japanese market.

I searched current and past sales, stateside and abroad, but could not find another in this beautiful blue color. The search included all models in the line-up of the period.

The Kenwood German product sheet and Italian and French catalogs of the time show the unit in black, but make no mention of other colors. Kenwood launched their website in November of 1998 and by that time the new model was the DPC-381. It was a gray/black unit with no mention of other colors. Does someone have information about the color?

Sometimes we never find out, look up the Walkman named after a little city the co-founder of Sony grew up in. I've personally got the stereo microcassette M-1000B, there's a lot of the regular silver version, mine is tinted brown and for taping birds, never saw another one like it. All they had to do is throw a different colored plastic pellet in the injection machine. What I'd like to know is why they really limited the color choices on just about everthing, we always got boring black, gray and silver, just about nothing else. Some of the nicer colored units showed up everywhere else.

It's sorta cool though having a unit that at minimum isn't common.

Henry Ford started that trend "Any color you like; as long as it's black". I guess it is down to logistics. Imagine seeing six different colors in a catalogue then finding the shop only had one in stock. That actually happened with this gold iPad I am typing this message on. I bought it just a couple of weeks after this model was launched and was lucky to get one at all.
