B & O Boombox on ebay

Looking at the side view in the link I provided this might be the thinnest boombox ever made. I guess this was carry over from B&Os radios that were also very thin. On that basis they probably had to move the left speaker to avoid another part like the transformer. However, it does look strange.

 

Anyone got any internal shots? Would love to see inside one! Bid on a couple over last couple of years but they simply went too high!!

 

These were intended for the affluent, older, country-club dads who would never allow themselves to be seen with a traditional boombox. No, those were too "ghetto" for them.

 

i had two different B&O boomers in the past. one was the good old bbx-style, the other one more like an egg. both had good sound, the eggy-thing went flawless but the other one needed to be fixed, so i opened it, to find out it‘s nothing, seriously nothing special.
like many B&O items, it‘s for the design (some like it, the other ones don‘t).
like a Rolex. a good watch, but far overpriced.

 

I must put mine back together. Here a a couple of internal photos I took to remind me how.

Like their TVs they put a lot of effort to make the "box" as thin as possible. It isn't much thicker than the speakers.
A wall mount was available which would have made sense.

Hopefully the recap in the PSU area I did on this one will revive it. It worked O.K. and sounded good on batteries but was distorted on mains.
I have already had one attempt at putting it back together. Having thought I had finished I found the PCB was misaligned with the front panel switches, none of which would operate. I'm sure there is a knack like maybe fitting the board with the box upside down. Note to self, try that next time.

Since getting this I spoke to the person I bought it from. He acquired two when they were refurbishing the premises of a publishing company.
It sounded to be Champagne and Bang & Olufsen rather than Beer and Boomboxes.

p.s. Some time ago I was asking what the smallest box you could get with a phono pre-amp in it. This might be it it. The line input can be switched to line or phono level.

 

Longman is that the same model this thread was originally about? B&O's biggest boombox only has 3-watt drivers?

Regarding the driver positions, everything is packed in very tight in there.
The driver position is probably in order to fit the PSU in.
The 3W rating is probably a genuine 3W, unlike the 5000W bluetooth speaker I saw in a low end phone shop yesterday. 3W would be more than comparable size units like a Sony CFS210.
