New to Stereo2Go, also posted this in the new intro forum... An orange Sony Sports KNVB. I'm the original owner, purchased when I was a teenager, mid-80s Somehow showed up in an electronics store, NIB in the US. Was extremely inexpensive, on account of the color (everyone wanted yellow back then...)
I used to see a lot more of those pop up for sale with all of the teams of the league, now it's pretty rare, I'm assuming the "collectors" have been snapping them up cheap for years before anybody else noticed. I've seen the European Units, I think they might have also had South American and I'm pretty sure Japan. I believe they were all soccer and there might be different years with different models. I think I posted one or more in the mega-sale thread a few years ago, my memory is starting to slip. Great find!
Below a picture of al 6 variants, although there might be another yellow version without the star. It is not my collection and I can't find the photo source.
Here's a newer one... Sony WM-EJ95, this guy sells a lot of Walkmans, hope he's on the forum! https://www.ebay.com/p/23020830447
@Mister X interesting. I havent seen any other teams in my img queries. I've seen the collection of 6 in the image above, including Beach and Okinawa. On your suggestion i tried querying "sony wm-f5 football" and "sony wm-f5 soccer"but it just returns the same results If other team/football/soccer models existed I havent been able to verify
I'm 90% positive I posted others either in the mega-thread or Walkman Archaeology, I think they were Japanese Teams.
As with the walkman-F8, that star symbol just means its a USA-sold walkman. The Canadian-sold walkmans displayed a maple leaf. So if there is a yellow walkman without a star, it probably has a maple leaf, or nothing if it was sold in other markets. I suspect that both models existed because yellow was the "Sports Walkman" color ...
Wow! I just learned there are also Canadian Walkmans! I found pictures of the WM-8, WM-F8, WM-11, WM-F12. Is there also a WM-F5 with a maple leaf? Does anybody know other Canadian Models?
WM-F5 yellow has 3 (4th one has a minor design change) different design versions of front plate but none of them printed with a maple leaf. Other color F5 don't have multiple versions and lack a maple leaf design.
Good morning, I just received one, for a ridiculous price I think (€100), announced as completely broken but in fact it works on an external power supply. The radio is ok, the FF and RW too, not the play though, at least the central gearI imagine. I don't think I would dare open it myself, yet I have a hunch that it won't take much to make it functional.
