Yes, I can't quite believe its' condition tbh. Almost looks like it's never been used! RCA covers from aliexpress
I cannot find back a photo showing a TC-D5Pro and a couple of external components. One is a small mixing console of some sort and there was another component which I'm not entirely sure what it was but they both had the same design-language as the TC-D5 series recorders. Looked like a set that all worked together for editing in the field so to speak. I'm looking to acquire these components to make up a set. Anyone have any ideas?
OK, I found the photo of the mixing console. Anyone got a model number or one to sell or know of one for sale anywhere? A model number would be a good starting point...
Nice! I love accessories, I've got that little Sony MX-10L Mixer used with the stereo microcassette recorders for "birding." If you pull an entire system together please post pictures. I'm surprised more members don't have complete systems, I've been slowly aquiring the matching branded mics for a lot of these players, nothing too nice but they're still neat to have.
Just found this over on worldradiohistory.com in a 1983 Studio Sound Magazine, it shows the Sony Line Up. The portable mixer is really nice looking, especially since it matches the equipment. Good luck finding the PCM F-1, those have their own fan base, I've never seen one for sale yet.
some very nice units here - i can add on just another UHER (had introduced that before in a different fred): than one of my Nagra III‘s in early Telefunken-version: and one of my Nagra SN‘s (this one is SNS-version):
autoreverser i am liking the look of that unit, you must bring it and show me next time we meet at the Munich High End Show.
…sounds like a plan i really like the Sony TC-510-2, allways wanted one but they‘ve become too expensive those days…
JVC CD-1635 from 1976, I don't know anything about this model but it seems like it was quickly replaced with the CD-1636. The 1635 is very polished looking in the ads while the newer 1636 looks more like a field recorder with a black case and front panel protection handles. This one doesn't mention JVC's ANRS (noise reduction) System
I see Marantz PMD Recorders going for decent money online, not the stereo 420 and 430 but the mono units. Any idea why people would be buying these? I'm guessing they don't know they are mono or they want a cool looking shelf queen for the collection. One was listed for $549 USD or best offer, another for $500 USD and both sold, I have to believe it's newbies not knowing they're not stereo to pay 10+ times what they should be worth. Is there a market for high-end portable mono tape decks? Maybe running a few at a time and mixing stereo from live events?
Saw this phenomenon on my local market as well. The PMD-221 & 222 are priced similarly to the stereo ones. They're much more common and look very similar, so I think it's easy for unspecialized sellers selling unrefurbished units to not realize the difference.
I've got a box of them so it makes me happy, I just don't like when people buy stuff unaware that it's not the sought after versions. I could be completely wrong, they are still cream of the crop recorders but are they good for music? Most of the old ads I see are for journalists and dictation. If I had some fun time I'd wire them up and mix them through my Marantz Mixer and see what it sounds like.
A cool ad for the JVC Duo from 1977, theKD-2B is really cool looking but it's much larger than seems in this photos.
