In the depths of the Retro Audio Museum, nestled in the small city of Lelystad in the Netherlands, there lies a collection of retro tape recorders, each one whispering tales of a bygone era. Among these audio relics, a peculiar connection weaves its way through the fabric of time—a connection between two iconic names that resound with nostalgia: AKAI and FODOR.
While the AKAI tape recorders take center stage, their sleek forms and timeless designs capturing the essence of a golden age, it is the gleaming reels that adorn one of these machines that beckon the curious onlooker. For among the sea of the original AKAI aluminum reels we use for display, a solitary FODOR aluminum reel fitted, an enigmatic symbol of a forgotten partnership.
Hundred years ago, in the bustling city of Rotterdam, a Dutch distributor of photographic equipment called FODOR flourished. Born in the 1920s, this enterprising entity imported an array of cameras and accessories to them from all over the world, bringing a touch of the exotic to European shores. Yet, it was during the 1960s that FODOR and AKAI found themselves drawn together, forging a formidable alliance. The illustrious AKAI, renowned for their pioneering tape recorders, sought a trusted partner to bring their creations to the Dutch market. And so, FODOR became an official dealer of AKAI equipment in Holland, heralding a new chapter in their storied history.
When the AKAI tape recorders embarked on their journey into the Dutch market, they found themselves accompanied by a distinctive companion—the FODOR-branded empty reel. Many of the AKAI tape recorder sold by FODOR was lovingly paired with this unique aluminum reel, a symbol of their shared commitment to excellence and craftsmanship.
The years rolled by, and the tides of time carried FODOR on new currents. They evolved, diversifying their offerings, and began venturing into the realm of household equipment. Today, they thrive as an online retailer, providing the modern world with televisions, dishwashers, and a myriad of other necessities. But hidden within the annals of their rich history lies a chapter brimming with AKAI tape recorders and the echoes of a remarkable partnership.
So, dear visitor, as you wander through the labyrinthine corridors of the Retro Audio Museum, take a moment to reflect on the symphony of collaboration that unfolded between AKAI and FODOR. Let the evocative melodies of the past transport you to a time when these titans of audio innovation united, forever leaving their mark on the tapestry of history.

Cool decks, never heard of Fodor over here. That 50/60 hz switch on the faceplate is interesting, it's usually back by the cord.

Thank you! There are eight AKAI tape recorders in the museum collection, for now, to be continued!

I have to check out back, I think I have at least a couple AKAIs but they're shrink wrapped up. TEAC might have had some more cred over here, I feel like I have more of those.
