Hi, I have a Sony wm fx-123 walkman and recently changed the belt and the cassette player works good. But the audio is distorted, by distorted I mean the output comes with noise. I tried cleaning the output jack, look for leaky capacitors and found nothing. The sound gets better when the volume and/or the tuner are held firm, so I am looking for solutions that I can try and also don't mind spending money to get it restored by an expert. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks
I'm not sure what your skill level is but I always start with a good cleaning, over here we mostly use DeOxit/Faderlube, you have similar products over there, nickeccles threads have mentioned brand names. Anytime I have sound issues I start with contact cleaning. ARKAY used to post over here all the time, he wrote this thread on DeOxit, careful it gets long. https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/the-idiots-guide-to-using-deoxit-revisited.207005/
Yesterday I went to my favorite local microcenter.com That's one word. And I bought one. Can each of the deoxit D5 and the deoxit fader F5 I also use denatured alcohol as opposed to any other kind of alcohol because that's pure 100% and then I use air and Goo gone. And yes carburetor cleaner and camera and just anyway when I'm cleaning stuff and I document with my camera and yada On the floor in front of the table is a Toshiba rt-s90 which has a bad circuit board has a crack in it somewhere. So I'm going to reflow the solder on the right hand side of the circuit board. Try to close the cold solder joint in one of the hundreds of points there and I needed a new fine tip. So it was just easier to buy a new inexpensive soldering iron than to try and buy a new tip which you're just ridiculously expensive by themselves. And while I was there I got a couple more cans of deoxit and anyway There you go. There's a wide-angle shot of my entire work area and like I said on the floor is the inside of the main unit and on the chair in the far back is the front of the Toshiba s90 that's what I'm going to try to work on Sunday morning here
Quite a setup you have there. I hope you sort the problem. Also, I have placed an order for the Deoxit cleaner kit and I should be getting it by this week. I noticed I am also losing a spring that keeps the Play button up because right now inserting tapes and getting them out is a bit hard. I don't know how many other issues I am going to identify lol
Well, this is not exactly a Walkman as it is a, general shop. Cx-457 f. Auto reverse boombox which I've had for quite some time and I went through it a many many years ago and I couldn't fix it and so present day or a few days ago I went through it again and I finally got it to work in reverse but it won't work in The forward direction because it's missing springs and other parts which I don't know what because it was missing parts when I got it. So I was able to get it to play a cassette in reverse but not the other direction. So I'm happy about that. But as far as it working completely, that's not going to happen. Other than that, it's a very loud model and here's a picture. The blue tape on that button is a reminder to not depress it because that's forward direction and it doesn't work and it will eat your tape if you put it into that direction. But it'll play fast forward and rewind in reverse. No issues all day long. It just won't autoverse. That's the back. And at the top and now I got to finish this Toshiba.
