G’day, Im from Melbourne Australia. Recently, i felt nostalgic about walkman / discman that I grew up with. Maybe it reminds me the time when my body was still younger and without pain Currently, Im trying to find few good ones. I have Sony EX2000 ordered and trying to get tps l2 repaired by the seller before I buy it. I’m also active in headfi for more digital audio stuffs: https://www.head-fi.org/members/lycos.78319/ Anyway, keen to learn more about the old discman / walkmans in this forum.
Welcome Lycos! We've had a good amount of new members from your part of the world lately. Feel free to post your equipment, any of it, we love it all.
Welcome Skippy, if there is anything here you see on Trademe here in NZ. This Kiwi should be able help to fly it to you if you need any help. Cheers Kiwinut
Vice versa mate. If you managed to find something interesting in East Melb from gumtree/fb marketplace, i should able to grab it for you
Welcome mate. My EX2000 on my website https://tapefactor.neocities.org was done by an Aussie bloke from Melbourne (Monkeytape Audio) It's arguably better sounding than my WM-DD9
Hi there from the Gold Coast.. Can I ask how much the ex2000 was and was it complete (remote, stand, box etc)?
Around AUD350. I have asked my Chinese friend to buy it from local market there (taobao used market). It includes stand, power supply and that inline cd control. Unfortunately no battery is included so Im not sure if its working with battery. He’s still on holiday there and would bring it here in 2 weeks time.
Oh man, you lucky bugger. Seems cheap. I thought people only used taobao for buying fake shoes and clothes.
Its their used marketplace - like our gumtree but better. Its abit of gambling - my friend doesnt have cassette to test it. I only rely on the seller honesty - he has quite good positive feedbacks. If all went well, i may try to get more expensive stuffs next time. Keen to get Sony D50 or D555.
Welcome Lycos, I'm also from Australia and started my Walkman Boombox CD etc etc etc restoration journey 6 years ago. I have been doing electronics repair for over 30 years though. Been full circle with my Walkman collection which grew to over 65 all restored but decided to sell them down to just 2 since the worse thing for these is to sit in a box. The last 2 were a like new DD9 for a while too and love it. A local fellow collector bought that from me this year and a AIWA PX101. I currently have 2 x like new EX910s, EX631, FX999 and a Panasonic RQ-SX22V like new in box and all working perfect. All have excellent sound (especially the Panasonic) Had a red D-50 too so restoring for me is almost more enjoyable than owning them to for too long. Bought most of them using Buyee proxy site. Never had an issue.
Wow!! That must have been quite a collection! What’s your favourite? Also do you still accept any repair/restoration work?
Yes I do but depends on what is in need of a restore and how much the owner is prepared to pay I help a local retro store too with his stuff getting the vintage gear working. I am also very OCD fussy and try to restore gear like cassette audio to near perfect sounding as possible. Been lucky to have some cassettes recorded for me from very high end decks which helps.
