I am looking to buy a new deck and I have an yamaha mcr 100 set that includes both k ex100 cassette player with Dolby B/C at around 90 usd with 2 sets of speakers and a cd receiver. I also am looking into a technics rs tr355 at 50usd. Both the owners say that the deck is fully functional but I don't know which one is better and easy to restore or maintain over a long run.

Sorry, I don't know either decks but they are different, the Yamaha is a cool little micro-system and the Technics looks like most of the other off-the-shelf double decks from the late-80's. The full Yamaha System might be really nice but there is a "System Connector" interconnect between the units, I'd be concerned if you could use the tape deck as a stand-alone unit or if it has to be bundled with the other units and if the remote has features not accessable on the front control panel.

Without getting into sonics, I'd get the Technics if I was looking into a stand-alone deck, but I have several, and would love to put together a nice little Yamaha Micro System which tend to be very rare around here.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I want to have a little setup that will enable me to play both CDs and Tapes. I thought of getting the Technics initially and use it with a modern receiver so I can use the radio function as well. I am intrigued about the Yamaha system but I don't know about maintenance or the availability of spares

Finding the belt size is the hardest part but they both will most likely work for several years once the belts installed.

Easiest way to figure out which ones to service is the Google for parts before you buy them and see what the availability is of parts and service for either one before you buy them? I think I said that twice
