Hi everybody, I just joined. My name is Tim, my background is electrical engineering and I live in the Netherlands. As an audio enthusiast I have been following this wonderful site for some time, it's about time I signed up. I have several collections of devices that marked technology breakthroughs or just weird quirky solutions. One of them is my (huge) Walkman collection. I loved innovative technology since I was a kid. Was a big fan of Walkmans from the start and took my Walkman everywhere during my youth. Since then, I have always been an early adopter buying the latest and greatest technology - most of the time from Sony. As an engineer, I focus mainly on the technology and craftsmanship of mechatronics in these wonderful little boxes. Some I consider true art, a level of brilliant engineering that was at its peak in the 80s and 90s. Seeing and touching these marvels of technology makes me happy. I intend to post parts of my collection over the next few months and look forward to some discussion around them. Kind regards, Tim
Welcome Tim! I share your affection with all these cool little gadgets, feel free to post anything, you know we love photos and it doesn't have to be all cassette players.
Thanks Jorge, I will make a post with pictures of my collection of Walkmans (+Discman, Minidisc, Scoopman etc) soon, but I don't know where to start so I have to give that some thought first
Golly don't be bashful just wave your camera around like this. Let me show you how to do it This is my work area This is My bedroom Yeah boombox with a flashlight in it. That's a JVC RC-207r and that's how you do it. So simple. Ps I also shoot videos if you don't notice The first picture lol.
Let's start with an overview of (a part of) my collection. I like Walkmans a lot, but also minidisc, discman, scoopman, DAT and any other nice technology. Next to the protable devices I have also several other collections of (mainly audio) electronics... it's a little crazy.
I thought it might be a cool idea if I post the devices one at a time, explain what I like about it and what's unique/quirky/differentiating about it. I'll open a seperate post for that and hope I can contribute something to this great community this way.
I thought about doing that but then I would have like maybe 500 different posts. So I keep to myself a little bit and just make videos
I only use one or two walkmans at a time. Mostly for demonstration and the other one for recording in my pocket as opposed to using a digital device like my phone
Welcome Tim, my name is John and it’s a pleasure to meet you. I made it as far as the airport in the Netherlands, it was beautiful flying in.
That is quite the collection! I wasn’t sure whether to like it or start helping you list it on eBay lol!
I do have a little battery operated compressor but I don't know where it is right now but I do have a Walkman by GPX. It has a flashlight in it as well. Hard to show it with just one picture but I'll try OOh that was here you go. It's a GPX c3303rs model Oh wait! I found it. It's a kinetic ka-1133 air inflator power bank and flashlight Did I make your day now?
