Hi... When I get in my car, I insert a flash drive in my USB port and then listen to all my ripped music from my CDs..... What I would like is a boombox or small stereo for my garage, where I can use a flashdrive like this and insert it in the USB port... and I don't want to throw in my billfold... Can anybody recommend a boombox or small stereo that has a USB port for playing music from a flash drive?

Thanks... any and all suggestions appreciated...

    Dennis

Here get one of these or even buy mine if you want. If you're in the USA cuz I'm not using it. I have way too many radios and this one's got a battery in it so you can power it three ways and it has a USB port and a another port I can't remember. Let's hear, but here's a picture

Hey had a boo boo with the phone trying to get a picture of the inside to show you the controls so you can see but here we are just

Hopefully that close up of the function switch will get you where you need to be. I'm not taking this thing out of the box and taking pictures of it. You can review it online in some people's YouTube videos, but this is powered by the AC cord, internal lithium ion batteries or 6D batteries. Yes it's got internal batteries so you don't need to add batteries but when the internal batteries go dead you can add 6D batteries to it and still play it and play your cassette line in and all that do you and I'll give you an update picture of the back?

Answer me back and I'll ship this to you if you're in the USA or you can buy one of your own online doesn't matter to me. I've got way too many radios here. Let me show you a picture of the room that this is in

    Welcome to the forum Minnesota!

I would recommend getting a bluetooth receiver that plugs into a boombox that has RCA inputs (AUX), that opens up a huge world of options but mostly you can use any phone to transmit. There's a ton of them on Amazon, I'd get one with a rechargable battery. The ION Boombox that C2G recommends is probably an ok value when it goes on sale at $49 but it seems kind of plasticy. The New Wave M90 might be another cool option but I don't think it has USB, it does have bluetooth.

Good luck finding this m90 looking thing because it's like really expensive like maybe $300 or something like that. I haven't priced it recently but it's crazy priced I think

A lot of love was put into some of these products and that aint cheap. Those guys were working on the prototype forever and probably burning through savings like crazy. I can't even imagine how much the molds cost or the break even point.

But now that you brought all that up, why up? What about the elbow cassette player that I like to see to come to the real world cuz they've already made it. They just need to manufacture it and get it out to us

I'm pretty sure they've figured out it won't work correctly without some back-tension, the builder's site went dark long ago.

The record cutting lathe is the one I'd love to see.

This is what I was going to recommend since the OP did not necessarily want to play cassettes or CDs. These units sound amazing for their size, and pair two of them for even more power.

Good morning.... spent way too much time looking for something for my garage workshop and boomboxes were one possibility and then I switched over to looking at small micro stereos too.. They would work for what I need.... the main function I wanted was a USB port for playing music on my flashdrives and AC..... batteries are OK but I just want old school plug it into the wall... Found a ton of smaller stereos and at one time, I learned how to build my own speakers and did build several using parts from.... Radio Shack... yes, I'm old.... but the speakers I built were ten times as good as commercial speakers at that time including JBL...... OK so what did I buy... I am a sucker for watts... watts per channel, and how different companies try to disguise what the actual numbers are..... most micros were about 20 watts... 10 per channel.... and made in the orient... one company was different... and the unit was made in the U.K.... and had a three year warranty... for prime members only so my son ordered it for me... but first I had to check (chat) with Amazon about honoring the warranty from a third party sale.... struggled with Amazon last year when my Tablo unit failed... got the usual run around from the chat person.... and finally got 30 day return for replacement or refund.... chatted later with Amazon... same question about the warranty and got one year replacment/refund .... saved that chat..... Then went to the third party seller's website iZilla... and asked about the warranty and how it works..... wonderful customer service... and three years... still no specifics about how you would return it to U.K if it fails... and that is my question.... anybody done business with iZilla or bought an Oakdale stereo? I paid $103 for it.. Black Friday sort of thing.... and when it comes down to it, what's $103 anyway??? The only thing I wish it had was an A.M, radio although FM is good enough.... Taking a chance on this one because it is from England... but.... these days, you just never know... the only other company that humored me and seemed to have decent prices/deals was Philips..... otherwise you were looking at cheaper models made overseas somewhere....

Your thoughts/comments are appreciated and thanks for all the other suggestions too...

It's small and it doesn't run on batteries which is what I need. I need it to be portable and it doesn't show what the consumption is for this model

I more less wanted both... AC and DC but mainly, I wanted something for my garage where I could plug in a USB flash drive and listen to the music on that flash drive... I might buy a portable battery operated unit later to use like you do... but I can also use this one inside after pairing it with my Fire TV.... The battery powered units would have worked for me too... but I just don't listen to music outside the garage or my car... so flash drives are still what I prefer.... The problem now is that my new stock of super duper flash drives won't work with their format... they have to be FAT 32 so I will find some used ones that I have had for years, load them with music and be all set.... my concern now is to find a way to mound this system in my garage/shop to keep it clean too... and a PS?? What do you mean by "consumption?" I don't think I have ever heard that before.... and would like to know.... thanks!!! Have a good one....

Consumption is the amount of power required to run whatever device is normally measured in watts. The more Watts needed to run a device is simply the measure of how much power it takes to operate the unit and people incorrectly mistake the wattage as listed on the back of the unit normally for the power output which is incorrect. Take the route of consumption or change the word to consume and that's how much power it eats if you will at whatever voltage it requires to operate at and the more it eats, the more it uses. I don't know what I'm saying here. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to consumption of wattage from the wall socket to power, whatever device more is not necessarily good. The most efficient device that outputs the most music power to your speakers with the lowest consumption is what everybody's looking for. I think because then it won't use that much power and give you a lot of sound theoretically.

You should find a means of formatting any drive up to 2TB in FAT32. Back in the Windows XP days it was just an option in the drive formatting box. More recently I think I saw an HP program that does it. Have a look around the web sticking to legit looking websites.
