Couldn't tell you if my CD player works in my Company vehicle but I know my rebelted and restored Panny is kickin' butt.

Anyone else joining me in this endeavor?

Interested to see the Panasonic there as I have the same model at my Mums.

It cost me some ridiculously low amount (like £2) on Ebay but like yours all the lettering has worn off the front (assuming it didn't start out with eight unlabelled buttons). Like yours did it also needs a new belt. Was it difficult to fit ? I guess the fact that you are using the stereo means it is worth fixing.

The belts are not difficult to replace on these. There are two. One from the motor to a transfer pulley and another which drives the tape mech. You do need to lift the circuit board after removing the screw securing it however, there is no de-soldering required like some models. The board can be meticulously folded back to access the belts.

You are correct about the button labeling. This model came with a rubberized coating on the front door. The writing that told you what the buttons did was stamped on top of that rubber coating. After normal use this coating starts peeling off like sun burn. Very poorly thought out on their part. Only one that has never been used or pictures from the 90's when new will have the front lettering intact :)

Hmm. That sounds like a plan :) Need to get that thing out again for another workout lol

Thanks for the info about belts. Your explanation of the Rubber coating explains why mine has a shiney black front with no signs of any markings.

has enough of the front lettering to see what it was although I note it is "AUTO EVERSE".

I am as OCD today as I was in school. When the rubber coating started peeling off I couldn't have it that way. I intentionally peel all of the coating off on the bus rides home and to school until the whole face was shiny. To me it looked better than leaving peeled sections on the front. You can see by the picture in that eBay sale just how tattered it looks when the coating starts to come off. Makes the Walkman look like its been in a brush fire...lol
