I got a wm 31 and when I opened it the belts were melted, but the motor is not spinning, what can it be? How can I check if motor is done? It spins freely when manually rotated, it fells like electricity doesn't get to it
I bet the service manual would show you where to connect voltage to the motor directly. I would guess it would probably be 2 of those copper looking places on that ribbon at the motor. I am guessing though. I wouldn't put voltage to anything unless I was sure.
I was thinking the same, but the service manual it doesn’t look to say anything about it … https://walkman.land/document/551/Sony_WM-31-31SS-41_-_Service_Manualpdf
It looks like the power goes straight to speed adjustment and from there to the motor. It's the red line on the schematic on page 6. I don't know how hard that is to follow on the actual board is but a bet an ohm meter would tell you. I am an old horseshoer and a knife maker. You probably need to get more qualified opinions than mine.
Looking at the schematic, it's obvious the entire motor servo circuit is inside the motor apart from R307, R308 adn RV301. Most likely problem is one (or more) of the 4 connections to the motor is open circuit. Motor servo could also be faulty if unit has been powered with reversed polarity, but that's unlikely to have happened.
Hi! I got a multimeter today and I was checking if the motor was getting power, while I was doing that it started working! I don’t know how but now it’s working when I press play, I now ordered the new belts and waiting for them
That sounds like the most likely scenario to me. Finding it to fix it might be tricky now that it's working.
Mornings84, One thing while you have that unit apart you should get some really light oil I like using Zoom turbine oil it will help that motor to last longer and yes it could been just bad connection I have a digital microscope that I use . Sincerely Richard
