Hi my name is Olivia but you can Star as well! I am super bad at these ice breaker introduction things so just know I have probably spent thirty minutes to an hour on this haha! I am 25 years old and from Utah. For the past few years I have been into collecting older video games, consoles, and physical media in general. While my dad wouldn't call himself a collector, he has kept all of his cassette tapes, cds, etc. and I take after him in wanting physical copies of my favorite games, movies, and music. I got my love for music and taste from him as well. (I know Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album like the back of my hand!) I also love vintage nail polish, I don't have any unfortunately, but I do love looking at the ads and swatches. I have two cats, Oliver and Asteria. I love to write, and I read all sorts of books. I am a huge nerd and into Marvel, and I love playing video games. I love the outdoors and I want to visit every national park in the US. I like to talk about cool rocks/formations, and like meeting new people. I am a shy person but I love to talk with people about their culture, hobbies, and life. I am very excited to be here, and see everyone's collections!
Welcome to the forum, thanks for the introduction! It's always a good starting point when people close to you have "free" stuff, I used to be the neighborhood dumpster for vinyl and equipment and fast-forward 20 years, it's worth a small fortune. For your nail polish addiction, I'd search over on archive.org for old magazines, I've looked through hundreds of issues of Esquire (a very popular men's magazine that's been around forever) for cool old ads and stories. I was watching a YouTube Video recently and was surprised vintage women's perfume was now collectable but a lot of old stuff is showing up on the radar, the graphic and industrial design were timeless. Feel free to post your adventures, we love it all!
A nice introductory post that is well thought out is worth a lengthy reply! It's always interesting to read of people getting back into physical media. Anyway, welcome to the forum, it is a quiet place generally. I just added "Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell" to my "to find" music list. I always follow up on any mention of music that people make. I found a lot of good stuff that way! (I grew disillusioned with new video games and dropped out around 2005-ish with PC games Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 though I did / do enjoy the original Star Craft for PC. Every few years I play through the old games I grew up with on the emulator for Nintendo 8 bit and Super NES. For 8 bit that would be the old mega man games with their amazing music and old 1990 8 bit Tetris. I played through Super Mario 3 last year for the first time in nearly a decade. Such painful good memories. For super nintendo, Prince of Persia, Castlevania IV, Mega Man X and that's about it. I am into the music from these old games and there are great resources for the music files and also a lot of high quality fan edit or reproduction enhanced midi files of old 8 bit game music. And I put that music onto cassette tape. It's pretty much the bulk of the music I actually put onto tape! To have something to play back on the old boomboxes / walkman's. I've been playing Tetris in one form or another since August 1990. Oh I take a break for a year or two here and there. But keep coming back for more! The version I now use and play a lot is on a Ti-89 titanium calculator and it is called "Tetris Revolution" and can be found at that link. Yeah I got the calculator just to play the games people made... and this one was by far the best of all of em'. And my main hobby interest is back yard astronomy, telescopes / binoculars and high end optics towards the goal of visual planetary and lunar observing. Is that nerdy enough for ya? The big forum that deals with that is Cloudynights. Check it out!)
Sorry for my delayed response, I had some busy few days! I love free stuff as well, and hey if they're throwing it out I'd say its not theirs anymore! I wish I could go dumpster diving for equipment but all I'd find here really would be trash, but I can sneakily take or ask my dad to let me borrow some items. Thank you for letting me know about the nail polish ads and other places to look! I have seen the women's perfume and I am gonna wait to get into that one, knowing me I'd try to also collect and I don't have the money to do that right now lol! The older bottles are so classic and cool than a lot of the ones today.
Welcome to Stereo2go StarNS81 I am not a collector nor that much of a gamer either, but when I was younger I loved and had a lot of the Nintendo Game & Watch units, unfortunately I never kept any of them. I do love soundtracks to games, my favourite game soundtrack being Outrun. I have the Outrun sound tracks that was released on vinyl. https://stereo2go.com/forums/thread...rom-old-stereo2go-site.353/page-23#post-42582
