JVC from 1999, the review is in the MD Thread! One of the better looking mini's, I love the screen.

From 1981, not a compo but a beautiful Sony Car Stereo, yea the digital would have been huge back then. This is from Electronics Today International Australia, they seemed to have loved the higher end units or they just got a ton of advertising.

AKAI from 1983, more midi than mini but I've never seen it before and I get excited by tons of tiny buttons. Anybody have one of these?

I always admired them in Lasky's where the HiFi section had dim lighting to emphasise all the illuminated displays.
Keep a search going and bear in mind that the FD-5 and FD-7 were slightly more advanced systems following the same concept

I can' remember if he had the FD-3, FD-5 or the FD-7, but I'd take any of them! I just love the design, and it brings back memories of playing with the turntable platform when I was a kid!

Lasky's was one of my go to shops whenever we went to Crawley, straight to the hi-fi section!

I never saw the nicer all-in-ones, everyone had the plastic fantastic Fisher's with tons of lights and buttons but they were entry-level at best.

My local vintage shop Twin Cities Smitty has a killer Sony from this era and it looks like all the components are there. I love the sliding turntables unfortunately the plastics used seemed to cheapen them even though they were marvels of engineering. AKAI just didn't have a big footprint here, I don't remember anything besides the big R2Rs.

AIWA came out with this mini-statement piece, the cdia, in 1986, what a beauty, only 188,000 Yen!

It's hard to tell how good the LX-55 Turntable is, here's random internet photo and it looks great in red. I love covers like this that add to the TT design or maybe it's just the slant in the front.

Now we are talking! I have one of these, might take me some time to get it out if you want pictures but here is the cover of the catalogue.
    Scan_20250721 (Large).png

It was marketed as the "Digital Director" in the general catalogue for '86-'87

Also, the turntable pictured above is actually the LX-S5. The one in the catalogue looks close (if not identical) to the LX-770 of the same year.

I don't have this particular model, but do have an LX-120 from the previous year, used it for many years as my main turntable! Great direct drive, fully automatic turntable with programmable play.

I agree with Mister X's appraisal of the old slanted front look of turntables, my favourite is my Aiwa LX-E900, which has a cover that also fits over the "wooden" sides of the player. Quite unusual compared to other turntables of the time as they had to make a specific cover for this model only to accept the greater width. Sadly it is a downgrade from their earlier models and uses a DIN connection for both power and sound, so can't be used separately.

Thanks for posting and noticing the 5 = S.

Does the TT sit on top of the unit? I can't tell if it has the same footprint. When I see the cube I think of Steve Job's NEXT Computers......
