I was looking at all the photos, forgot about the link. I love the Roberts, we didn't get those here and I don't remember a similar Hitachi.

Last weekend it was the Merley Hamfest radio rally. I organise the stall for the local club so was there at 7AM to start setting up.

Here are the boomboxes I spotted. This Panasonic was the nicest and was just £40 but I don't really have space for another and like many the speakers didn't look like anything special.

@Mister X would have liked this Sharp

and two Philips. The first is definitely genuine rather than being one of the later badge engineered ones.

    What did I buy ?

Every sealed blank cassette I saw, a Philips personal stereo, and a top of the range Mini DV camcorder.

The Philips, dating to about 1988 when things were still being made in Singapore,

is in excellent condition but unfortunately only has sound on one channel. I wonder if items like that are in such good condition is because they got put in a drawer decades ago with the intention of taking them for repair, then got forgotten about.

Not shown is the Bush VCR, which looks like every other VCR from the noughties.
The main reason for buying that is that it is highly unlikely any more will ever get made.

Yea, that square Philips BBX is cool, I think someone posted that model years ago but they must be kind of rare.

The build quality on Mini DV Players is usually very nice, I like putting them up on the shelf to admire them. Just as complex as a high-end Walkman and they're getting harder to find.

Like VCRs, Mini DVs are another device unlikely to to be made again. Annoyingly I have had three JVC ones fail including one I bought new twenty years ago. One year they work, the next they don't, immediately ejecting the tape after loading it and telling you to try again. I wonder if it is related to hardened pinch rollers or similar. The appeal of the Panasonic was that it had a charged battery so I was able to check its operation before handing over my money. Hopefully it will stay working for longer than my JVCs did.

p.s. I forgot to mention the Project CDW 27 tape in the centre which was free and might have been free when new.
    Project CDW 27 was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_CDW27_platform
Maybe you got a tape for test driving one. There was also a CDW27 Movie Themes tape and a CDW27 Classical Collection. Maybe you got the whole set when you bought the car although we didn't get them in the lease Mondeo we got in 1993.
