Hello all!, My name is Jason, I grew up in the late seventies and early 80s in the Midwest near the Kenner factory, so I got yo see some great toys and had some fun electronics. I wish I remembered my first Walkman or Boombox. I’m sorry to say I don’t but I do remember my first key board. My amazing Casio Sk1. Wish I still had all that stuff but most of my old toys and electronics were lost to time, save a few scattered pieces. I’ve been slowing trying to reclaim what I lost over the years but I likely never get it all back haha. Nice to meet everyone !
Welcome to the forum! I found an SK-1 a few years ago; I have a modest collection of Casio's I've collected back when they were everyone was getting rid of the golden age electronics 20 years ago. I always like the SK-1 because it had the sampling button. The times have changed and even Casio aren't a few dollars anymore, I just checked ebay and they go for ok money, I'll have to remember where mine is and try it out.
I am glad you got yourself one! It really is a little gem of a keyboard. You are absolutely right about the price increase, that is no joke. I’ll tell you I am kicking myself now, see I found my replacement in 2023 to match the one I lost as a kid. The whole reason I wanted one is because it reminded me of the E-mu keyboard from “Ferris Bullers Day off” that same time I looked for one just for fun and actually found one on EBay for about $200. I just assumed the tech was so old that’s why the price was cheap. I was going to get it but was more interested in getting my old Casio, so I left it. I looked one up today….i am an idiot lol. Well I hope you are enjoying your collection, cheers !
Anything connected to a movie gets more expensive, just like the AIWA Cassette Player from Back to the Future and the first Walkman from Gardians of the Galaxy. I feel like $200 for that FB Keyboard would have been a score. It's amazing how everything 80's is going up in value, I haven't been looking at keyboards and haven't bought any for years, they don't show up anymore like they used to. I did get lucky a few years ago and found a Peavey KB100 Amp, now that's a lot of fun to crank those little guys up on a real amp.
Ahh the AIWA, that brings back memories. You are absolutely correct about anything movie related. It’s all gotten a bit out of hand. sounds like you have some rare boards if they are no longer showing up. That Peavy is epic! I remember seeing similar models at friends houses who played guitar. It was the only serious amp anyone used. That’s awesome! As for the $200 listing, the only explanation I can think of is someone got it through inheritance and looked up big keyboard s and just priced it along those lines. I’ve made some big misses before but that one stung. There is an auction site I watch where I got the Walkman I’d be asking for help on here . They have CIB Coleco ADAM right now . I will likely let it pass I’m sure it will be bid up high.
If you surf ebay enough, late-night buy it nows will show up. I've gotten extremely lucky but it might be weeks between "scores." The time between now and a couple weeks after Christmas tend to be dead on ebay, everyone is spending their money on other projects. I call it "boombox" season, you'll find all kinds of cool stuff going for 20-50% less than usual.
