Thank you, @Silver965 . Based on my initial measurements, the D-T10 should last at least five hours of continuous CD playing and "ages" on Radio.
I'll see how it fares to first discharge and then double-check the charging current.

Updated: indeed, after about 5 CDs of continuous play throughout the day with repeats of songs and some radio playing mixed in for good measure, the unit displayed the blinking "no more battery" on the LCD.

With the stock, unmodified, D-T10 charging schematic, I'm measuring about 500mA draw from my CV power supply at ~7V DC on empty batteries. They are rated 800mA for "Quick Charge" (two hours to 100%). Nothing heats up, so it seems this rate is not dangerous to the batteries. The current decreased until it reached 3mA some 2 1/2 hours later, and the batteries are now fully recharged.
