      The NOS (left) vs old skool RQ-P166 (right) rebuilt by yours truly for my high-school friend.

      Mechanism rebuilt. All electrolytic capacitors replaced with quality Panasonic and Nichicon. New motor regulator IC (old one busted), AN6612S. New belts courtesy Marian (@mihokm). Sounds every bit as good as the NOS machine, if not better. Both are great machines. I hope he will be happy with his surprise birthday present.
