    hi,
Does anyone have some pictures of the belt side of this deck mech ?
Problem I have after changing broken belt is the sliding bit keeps sliding !
I think it's to do with the drive pulley and the way the mech underneath engages with the arm which
Controls the cog with the paw
I'm not sure if the fault is caused by me changing the belt as it was bought with the belt broken
I have uploaded a pic with the pulley removed
    Thanks Pete

    Two more pics
Ist showing drive pulley in position
    2nd showing underneath of pulley
The small cog at the bottom engages with the black cog which slides the mech
The problem I have it just keeps turning the black cog
Should the small cog be free to move on its shaft ?
    ( it's got a spring coupled to a clutch system )
If you have this Sony cassette deck and know how it works please let me know !
    Cheers Pete

    Hi,
    Found the problem.
It is the direction mech causing the issue.
I just need to strip it down to see what's causing it oscillate between directions
good news it sometimes works ok now so there's hope !

    Found the fault!
The thin plate which is mounted on the left drive spindle.( see pic )
This was stiff to move due to the grease hardening
After lub all is now ok
I won't admit to how long I spent on this deck !
So if you have one of these decks and the tape direction oscillates this is the cause
