Hello, I didn't realize that I had never posted on this site before. Been a member for awhile. I am Joel Eidbo, and what started out as a hobby has morphed into an eBay business. I am dr.bo on eBay, and mainly I sell blank cassette tapes, also minidiscs, elcaset tapes, and some reel to reel. I have been a stereo nut since early in high school. My dad bought me a beautiful Kenwood receiver ( with the green lit panel, and maybe 20 watts/channel), with a no name turntable and speakers. My first LP played was the soundtrack to the movie 2001, specifically the track, "Also Sprach Zarathustra" When I went to college, I bought a Pioneer RT 1020L (still have ) and that began my love affair with cassette decks. When I graduated Medical School, and finished residency, I finally started to make a little money, and started collecting tape decks. Soon I had around 50 cassette decks, 5 or so R to Rs, and two Elcaset decks. Along the way, every time I bought a deck, the seller would send along a box of tapes, often with a bunch of blanks. Soon I had over 1000 pre recorded reel tapes, and several thousand blank cassettes I had a lot of reels I didn't want: Specifically there was one, "Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians"! I didn't want to throw it away, so I put it up for sale on eBay, at a price of 0.99. I just wanted somebody to take it off my hands. Lo and behold, the tape sold for 34.00!! Still can't believe it. So I started listing all the reels I didn't want. And as children started arriving, I started selling off the decks. But it was a pain selling pre recorded reels. The buyers would commonly complain that the leader wasn't long enough, or the box was dented, or you name it. It occurred to me that they would have a harder time complaining if I sold something new and sealed. So I started listing some of the sealed blank cassettes I had. And this all started in 1998. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I was one of the first to list blank tapes on eBay, specifically selling them one at a time. I liked collecting them, so I thought others would too. What was weird was that one the same eBay page I was selling the tapes, other sellers were listing bulk lots of sealed tapes. So I bought in bulk, and sold one at a time. Nowadays, there are quite a few other sellers who sell one at a time. Currently, I own my Pioneer RT-1020, a Pioneer 909, 707, and a TEAC 3340. I have a Sony Elcaset deck, an Akai and Sony cassette deck, and a couple minidisc systems. I have a pair of JBL Northridge speakers, and an old Denon direct drive turntable. A lot of this hasn't been powered up for years, due to my very hectic work schedule, and being a single dad with 4 kids.
Wow you've been doing this for a really long time! I've got hundreds of blank sealed cassettes but they just stay in a box lol
Hi there, with my OLD or previous name in ebay of DecentMan4you you may know of me as back when tower records in CA was selling off their cassetes from their distribution wharehouse as they were getting out of the business of selling cassette, we did battle to buy those cassettes. I think I bought a wooden wall cassette holder from you years ago via ebay. Presently my name in ebay is the same as here and also my youtube account Cassette2go. p.s. I still have and have not sold any of those cassettes yet
Hey Doc welcome to the forum. Are you a pathologist? glad to see you here. I checked your ebay listing and would like to make a special order of certain cassettes. will update you once i checked all your cassettes
Welcome Joel Interesting and nice story! You had a good feeling, starting to collect cassette tapes when the whole world moved to mp3
almost a year since I was last on here! Being a doctor is a full time job!! LOL. I wanted to know if it is OK to post photos of what has become my tape warehouse? In the last 12 months, OxideNation, my eBay store, with the slogan "Rust Never Sleeps", has steadily expanded. Currently, I rent a space totaling about 1650 sq. feet. If it is OK, I will start another thread and post all the photos
Welcome back. We all love to see photos. Just make sure you pick the right category "Auctions and Classifieds" looks right to me. On interest where are you getting all these tapes (or is that a secret) ?. 1650 sq feet is twice the size of my Bungalow.
I have long time sources; people who do not want to sell on ebay or in small lots. Over the years I have bought thousands of tapes from these people. In Mexico, France, Germany, Poland, England, Japan, Russia, a couple I am not sure exactly where they are!
Years ago I bid against Dr. Bo in ebay over cassette bulk or lot of cassettes from Tower records when they were getting out of the tape business. Recently I have become fb friends with you. as I am Cassette2go in ebay and in fb JamesCravenPierce I am.
Just saw your cassette store, that is mental I can't see any TDK MA-XG's or Sony Super Metal Masters, those are the only ones i am interested in as i am running low on them.
You got a huge selection of cassettes but I cannot identify cassette types by those pictures. I need certain cassettes . How do you plan to sell these cassettes? Is it going to be through Ebay or any other option?
