Yes, all of these Walkman have the same gear. There are few WM-2 and WM-5 with different gear, but they never break.


I know mihokom only from the forum. What he did for us is great.

 

Yes, he is a good guy to know. He says he has over 300 portable tape units so he can measure the exact correct size belts. Amazing.

 

Guide is finished. This is the first version, without special instructions for WM-D3 and WM-F5. These will come later, next year.
Over 50 pages of reading. It took me quite long time to finish it, that's why I was not active on this forum.

Please, wait for the instruction about guide location. Then I will delete this "not finished" guide from this thread.

It is only draft version and it needs some improvements. Plus I have some more things to add there. But almost everything is there, including slider repair. Hugo will help me with it and he will publish it on his walkmanarchive.com site.

Excellent guide, I never considered how many things can brake in a DD walkman !

Actually I think you are a bit too "scary" on the tape path adjustments; the left tape guide requires essentially a transparent cassette and a magnifying glass to verify the correct alignment.
Adjusting the head azimuth on a playback-only device is rather simple, it can even be done "by ear" with a good pre-recorded cassette (e.g. those made with HX Pro). I checked that type of adjustment with an oscilloscope and a test tape and it is typically correct within +/- 90 degree of phase shift between left and right. As a reference all those heads with fixed azimuth of auto-reverse walkman's are typically phase aligned with the same tolerance.

 

Done 5 DD's with this kit so far and results are always good. A great reproduction kit!!

 

i think i have either a slightly bent gear arm or centre gear axle. I havent been able to get my DD30 working with the new gear. Hopefully with Marian's extra instructions i can try to fix it.

 

wow and flutter bang on spec with Marian's DD gear and Capstan Ring installed.
