Old Eddie knows a good boombox when he sees one! Part of my mini-mega score in the I Found This Listings was this beautiful Pomtrex Model 140-07070. Eddie said it should have been model 666 since it matched his eyeballs but the marketing department didn't agree.

While perusing the other two units, I spied this up in the shelves of a very packed garage. I was hoping it was another Pioneer Mini since it was close to the same size and color. While not so lucky it is still a cool box, although very similar to the private labeled Hong Kong boxes that used to be everywhere. This one is a survivor, the antenna is still attached, there's a battery door, very few scratches and it works. Kind of rare for these little guys is a built in cord and battery option. It even has balance control and a pretty neat design layout, it looks good sitting up high on the shelf.

Cool, thanks for sharing - never heard of this brand. :)
Where was it made - any hints?

It's funny, I think I'm so used to looking at boomboxes that I thought this had a cassette deck, but no, it's a rare boombox layout with no deck! There are some other Pomtrex Radios on Google Images, not many but it is made in Hong Kong.

So it's a radio isn't it? But we can call it a boombox in the broader sense of the term, as historians of technology do when referring to portable radios, either with or without tape-deck. Cool, in red and with the woofer grills shaped after the Sanyo M9935

If I was a kid in the 80's and my parents brought it home, I'd say it was a fake boombox. It has just enough boombox design cues that we can discuss it but, sadly, it will never go into the hall of fame.....

The Kaboom is granted an exception since it truly is a BOOMbox! Plus I think they have AUX jacks.

I still have the box for my dp200, i gave the kaboom away...the pinch rollers are dreadful and i didn't find a way to replace them....the only boxed kaboom i have left is the rdmd5 but i never use it as it doesn't have a tape deck

Thank you Sir.....i can say with out doubt it's the best sounding kaboom made my friend....its like the dp200 but it sounds like it's using valves....the only downsides are no cassette and no batteries....i mean my fave box at the moment is the jvc pc5 with it's new re foamed speakers lad but the md5 makes it sound like a mono radio lol:wink2

Eddie has no problem with thread re-direction! I'm learning some cool stuff as I've never run into a Kaboom yet.

@Mystic Traveller Great photo!! Reminded me of a joke we had 30+ years ago when they installed yet another Patriotic Dude+Lady in front of Novosibirsk (thats in the heart of Siberia) Opera House: "get rid of the Dude but let the Girl stay". But re-position her horizontally:)
