folks, in 2017 it'll be the 10th. anniversary of the good old iPhone. when it was presented, many people asked themself why should they need one of those. as for today, most of us can't imagine daily life without a smartphone. but what is all in there, mean included, besides a telephone ? let's make this as a competition. go through your collection of retro-electronics and pile up one of each device that you own, but became sort off "useless" with the appearance of the smartphone, means f.ex.: - telephone - radio - music player - tv/display etc. etc. important: everything you show must be your own ! i'm going to pile up goodies now now now for some pics !!!
I wonder how many of the original iPhones still work and are being used ? Soon I will start a thread about my experiences with Sony MP3 players. Personally I think most Smartphones are "Jack of all trades, master of none". Therefore, none of the items you list have been truly replaced for me. The last two phones I have had both have Xenon Camera Flash. Until they add that to a decent Smartphone I can resist them (although a cheap enough Nokia Lumia 1020 would be tempting).
Quite a few things there that prove my thoughts above. Show me the Smartphone that: Sounds as good on its speaker as the small silver boombox Takes as good photos as the Canon camera Will pick up overseas radio with no local infrastructure like that Grundig radio. Has a battery that lasts as long as that Motorola Razr Works without needing any power like that paper map
