    Hello Cairplay

You can download a service manual free from Elektrotanya

    https://elektrotanya.com/sony_d-e440.pdf/download.html

Wait a few seconds for "Get Manual" to appear below the preview picture.
All the other links are click through advertising .

I see the player has separate Headphone and Line Out Jacks.
Is the left channel not working on both ?

If it is just the headphones it could be something as simple as the contact in the jack wearing out.
Being mechanical they can wear out if headphones are plugged in and out a lot.

Would you know how to solder a new jack in ?

    Thanks Longman for your answer.
Yes, I've got the service manual.
The headphone work good on the « Line Out jack ».
But I don’t know how to repair the the contact in the (headphone) jack ?
    And I don’t know where can I buy a new jack ?

That's awkward as the jack looks to be a special Sony one.

Probably the only place you could get one would be from another faulty Sony.

Other things you could try are
    • See if you ever get any sound when wiggling the headphone jack in the connector
    • Check all the solder joints around the jack. A magnifying glass is essential.
    • Cleaning the inside of the jack with contact cleaner and a Q tip.
    • Remove the jack and dismantling it to see if there is a bent contact or something
I'm afraid that a lot of repair techniques are just down to experience.

I also suspect that a professional repairer would charge more than the Discman is worth.
