From Japan, via Germany... the new pride of my very small collection, and I'm chuffed to bits to have it. Sorry for the lousy quality pictures, but these were taken within moments of it arriving at work. It created a bit of a stir, as noted by one of my colleagues examining the Japanese characters on the in/out ports at the rear.

It's in... plugged in (thanks to a 240v to 100v transformer) and ... I'm playing a TDK SA-90 Limited Edition tape that someone in a shop recorded a jazz CD on for me, thirty years ago. I might as well be listening to that CD now. This is beautiful. - I'd like to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone who suggested decks to buy. That was some brilliant advice that culminated with what was available on ebay... and here it is, running. I was going to leave it 24 hours to settle after its journey... but I couldn't wait. Thank you all.

A very good purchase, Michelle. It wasn't inexpensive, but I read lots of posts in various forums where someone is looking for a quality deck that works like a champ but needs to be under their $200 budget.

I'd been researching the decks in the suggestions that people had made, so when this one came up for a bit over £500, fully serviced, I knew I couldn't miss that opportunity. $200 budget! Is that US or Canadian?! ;-)

The red turntable... I just had enough of black. It's nothing special, just a Project Debut Carbon with the Ortofon 2M Red. It's good enough for my ears

No wonder your turntable is so familiar to me. I do have one exactly same as yours.

I know... I've got a shortage of places to put stuff around here. One day, when I have the house to myself...

Excellent acquisition, Michelle. I think that ES222 is the same as my K909ES, which is excellent.
If it’s in good working condition, it’ll give you lots of joy. You should learn to calibrate for any tape now with its excellent assisted system.
Don’t forget to get a good pair of speakers or headphones! ;-)

Thanks @walkman archive - Yes I think it is the same unit. The seller refurbished it, so indeed I'm hoping for many years of joy out of this deck. The calibration I have tried once so far, and I have a lot to learn as it's the first time I've had a system like this. Fortunately, I have the manual, so I'm working my way through it slowly.

I'm planning a long post about my audio setup. It certainly isn't the average setup, to put it mildly :)
