I was pretty excited when I saw this little gem up for grabs. I love these micro systems and they really seem like unobtanium these days. I never saw one around as a kid and it wasn't until I joined this site that I found out these even were available. The only information I've seen is the unit mrp32Dave has and it looks like HIFI Tom had one years ago that he was trying to sell on the forum. I've scoured the Japanese Sites and haven't found any information on this little Kenwood CR-50. These personal cassette player hybrids are so cool, J. Edwards did a thread on all the different variations, a must read if your into these units, you just need to go into the old forum. I've got the Kenwood next to a Toshiba RT-CS1-2, a boombox walkman I got this winter. These are two different executions of the idea. The Kenwood is in a "compo" style case and the Toshiba is in a kangaroo style case both fairly unique and heavy. These were statement pieces, I know there's some really cheap versions out there and if you lift them up they're a fraction of the weight and the quality is not there. Yorx might have made a few different versions but they were a low cost mass market brand.
Looks very cool, would love to see a picture with better light so we can see the controls etc. Very nice tho
Cool I have the Toshiba, NOS but never seen the Kenwood. And I like the robot too ;-) It remembers me my beloved Mazinger Z, that I'm not sure you fellows seen in your country.
Thanks! I love the little guys and the Toshiba came with it's box. The case for the Kenwood is interesting, it's plastic coated cardboard, just like the 60s-70s toy cases. The case looks great but the seams and edges always start to split. I found the Mazinger Z Robot with his two buddies at a garage sale several years ago, it was one of my nicer finds.
nice one. there's a guy from spain permanently offering those, new old stock (new in box!) on ebay - - just that it's too pricey for me, also expensive shipping - otherwise i would grab one on the spot...
