    HI
I won on ebay last week a red DD1 from Germany and not 100% sure if I paid over the odds (140€ but I do like red DD`s)
Anyway this was advertised as working and today it arrived...it looked amazing BUT the issue....It does not power up.

Put in 3 different battery configurations and a few different tapes but nothing...no power apart from the occasional flash of a battery light when I pushed the Stop button.
The wheels have spun a couple of times but then nothing...
I messaged the seller and according to them they paid for someone to check the Walkman over before they advertised it and have a receipt as proof and of course the usual "no warranty or guarantee"...
They were even offered 200€ from another buyer once the sale had ended but I digress.....
    1) does anyone have a rough idea what the issue may be and if a cheap fix?
    2) can these units demand the money I paid for it or did I get slightly carried away?

Once I get some info from here then I will decide how to handle the seller......

    Appreciated......

there's a good chance your product either needs a new belt or new disc drive. Photos would help

    Hi Command8

Due to the ongoing issue with the seller how easy is it for me to check on the inner state of this unit?
I thought if the belts were knackered the unit would still power up once batteries were inserted?
I have to be honest I love my Walkmans but I am a virgin mechanic when it comes to opening them up....

ps: thank you for your response and any assistance....

The main issue with the belt driven DD1's is that the components on the pbc are garbage. More then likely the capacitors have failed and spilled their acid on the board. You would need to desolder all the capacitors to replace them. The Other issue is whether the rubber tyre has hardened or not.

    Shit......this sounds messy!!
The issue here is that the seller in Germany paid €15 to have the unit tested before it went on ebay as working and by the time it hit the UK it was knackered......
Something does not sound right esp when it cost me £135 with postage......

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if he paid the queen £1000 to test it, if it doesn't work it doesn't work. Open a case with ebay if he won't help. I hope you paid with PayPal and not bank transfer.

It should power up even if the needs centre gear replacement.

    Hi T-Ster
    Agree....
Did see an advert on ebay for a unit that worked with power via a AC supply but not via battery.
I am just trying to cover the bases whilst asking the questions.....
BUT yes.....if advertised as working then it should work when shipped......
