Nice set! Right now I am moving (crawling) towards my "next boombox-another beer" with Hitachi TRK-5190:

New 4" speakers to substitute the busted one, a lot of plastic cutting to make them fit, but the build quality here is sooo good (compared to D8444) that I do not mind wasting my time on this old'n'cheap bbox :)

Full story of D8444 is here: Philips D8444 Restoration :)

Holiday ale....just what I need now, instead of the normal 60 degrees F with flowers coming out and birds chirping we're in the middle of a snowstorm, about 14" so far on top of the 12" that hadn't melted yet. Good thing I've got a monster Yamaha Snowblower (or snowthrower for the Canucks). That box is extremely cool Reli, just wondering about the big knob on the top? It looks like the tuning knob is next to the dial but what is the other big knob on the top?

Quite possibly the biggest and best volume knob ever put on a boombox. Solid aluminum over a black plastic core.

I scored a couple tasty things last night, after picking up my locally sourced AIWA TPR-968, I grabbed some Oliphant Brewing Honees Honees to celebrate my find. This one was a cool find because a guy I've bought things off of over the years actually found it and gave me first dibs on it. My first impression of the TPR-968 is it's nearly identical to the AIWA TPR-990 except for the different grill cover styling. The TPR-990 has a few more features but I wouldn't hesitate to bring either box to a breakdance battle. The Oliphant Brewing Honees Honees is a nice change while we wait for some warmer weather up here, this nice little golden ale is flavored with peanut butter and honey and goes down pretty good.

Hitachi finally resurrected!!! Playing Covenant tune right at this moment while your true Pastafarian enjoys a pint of Guinness!

@Mister X: nice catch and its a grand excuse for celebration! I have yet to get my first Aiwa bbox yet! Being of limited funds recently (business sucks it all!) I did not even put my bid of $150 (my max at the moment) at Japan-Yahoo auction yesterday... and my Aiwa got sold for $110!!! Am I a LOOSER!!!??? No time to chat, going for another pint of Guinness:)

That Hitachi is stunning, it cleaned up really nice, it's probably as heavy as a sack of bricks. You could lug that around to record store day today and get a lot of credibility.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Missed my chance to resurrect my fav thread at my b-day: too much to drink, soo much to argue about... So... Here is an "afterparty" of today: resurrected Hitachi, my fav local ale, my b-day present of DWR lantern from The Boss, the Boss grilling some salmon and one of one-year-older me... Boy!, I look totally happy!! :)

Happy Birthday! That Hitachi might be one of the best looking 70's boxes, I'll have to keep an eye out for another one. Here's my little tiny Pioneer ST-Q10RD, it's so small it's not called a boombox, it's a squeak box. The ale is Maredsous Abbaye-Abdij, at 10%, a couple of them will knock you over!

Wisconsin called and said they could hear a little Moody Blues in the air tonight, but they blamed it on the Spotted Cow. You scored the best looking mono-box of all-time, very cool and great write up on your website.

BUSTED! Boodokhan, that's a serious, almost professional shot, just about everything is perfect but open the beer and spray some water droplets on it. I read in the old days that beer commercials would have droplets to entice the viewer.....

...and what is Premier? We don't get that in the Midwest....

You guys are bringing out the big guns and missing the spirit of the thread, it's the beer! I took a little hogg-pogg shot since I suck at photography with our newest local brew, "First Avenue" Yes, the world-famous concert venue has their own beer. For those not from here, it's our local downtown concert hall, made famous from Prince's Purple Rain Movie but even more so from all the bands touring on their first album that come through and brought it with them. What's it? That magical quality when they were still trying to make it big, not the huge show/circus of the bands now a days but the hungry guys that needed to prove it in every city. Since I had a box of 80's stickers next to the bench I threw some out, some of you old guys might recognize these icons of skateboarding, SIMS, Tom Sims and Burton would jockey for snowboarding world domination, Zorlac Trucks, Allen Losi Skateboards, and one of my personal favorite (and maybe Walkman Archive) madrid Skateboards!

Go for Goose Island beers while waiting... My lab was within a walking distance from their brewery in Chicago (crawling distance on my way back home:cool:)
Here in CA we have only Goose Island IPA, so my fav is "local" Sierra Nevada: I must have some German genes to prefer local beers. But my all-time fav German Spaten tastes like Corona when bottled, in Chicago, and on tap, it tasted absolutely-totally different, the beer which switched me from wines onto beers 30 years ago... Do not even ask what is the taste of Becks sold in my pater-land country of Ukraine: for over a year I could not even look at Becks... Those guys know how to make an extra buck. Same with everything, Winston sigs bought in Kiev are Not Winston!!!
sorry, no photos today: finished with a "mini-me" for RC-550 but not closed her yet, so listening to Yello (who could have guessed!?!) thru D8444 while imbibing "Boddingtons Pub Ale":)
