I made a video showing the insides close up and fixing my Sony TCD-D3 DAT Walkman. I finally have my first DAT device and it's the model I always wanted since back in the day.
Brilliant! I'm amazed you got it all back together again. I'd have have lost that tiny screw for sure!
I had a TCD-D3 in the 90's and spent a lot of money for several unsuccessful repairs. After a few hours of operation the «caution» appeared again on the display and blocked the device. I assume the technician was not educated enough to repair DAT Walkman (me neither). Finally, I gave the device away for free. By looking your video I am considering to buy this little pearl and to go back in the adventure of DAT again. Thanks for the motivation!
Perhaps the hardest part was reassembling the position of all the gears in the rotary encoder cam gear which does the mechanical mode select. This was not obvious in the video because that was a bit of a fluke. The mechanisms in the D3 are assuredly delicate but a sight to behold and wonderful to own. If anyone does any DAT walkmam fixing then let me know, so I can share what I know and learn more from others.
